In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Changing the difficulty level.

Changing the difficulty level. 10 years 11 months ago #1

So my group was able to get tickets for both runs this year. But one of the runs is Nightmare. We don't really want to play Nightmare but that was the only choice if we wanted a whole block of 10 tickets.
Since we did get the whole Block of tickets can we change it to normal when we arrive and are getting ready to run?

I believe the ruling on changing difficulty for a run goes as follows:
Runs will be done on the difficulty level indicated on the ticket UNLESS ALL 10 party members agree to change it.

I'm far from the final authority on this, but I believe that's how it goes.

That is how I understand it. Looks like there are still some 10blocks out there so might consider taking another peek to find the perfect run your after.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

My group already bought them since they wanted to make sure we would get a whole block. So o well hopefully since we have 10 we can change it if not we will be running nightmare.

Normally, Jeff and the TD folks are kind and flexible enough to allow such changes. :)

I will point out however (please don't take any offense) that doesn't this scenario pretty much defeat the purpose of dedicated Nightmare runs?

If people interested in Nightmare still have to compete with everyone else (people interested in Normal) when trying to register for "Nightmare" events, then it seems kind of pointless. (Maybe there is a rare case that someone buys a couple of tickets for Nightmare and they know that if they get a few tickets it is set for Nightmare, but even these guys still have to compete with people who want to buy the whole slot and turn it into Normal)....

Eldrad, I think you might reach out specifically to Jeff.

I agree Incognito, but when me and my friends each put three different times into our wish list so we have a total of 15 runs for Golembane selected we all click the second the event list opens. And get none of those runs we have to take what is open to use. We don't look for Nightmare runs to take. But we had to make sure we were able to get our tickets.

Yeah, join the club eldrad. Not everyone can get the runs they want. Sometimes all your planning goes for naught. I wish it were different, but until Gencon comes up with a way that doesn't involve thousands of users trying to get everything on their lists at the same time it will always be like that. In 7 years I have yet to get a Call of Cthulhu RPG game at the times I could play them at (and they were number 1 on my list).

Maybe you can find someone to swap runs with you? I do agree that the dedicated runs are there due to a decent number of players that want to run a Nightmare adventure. They may not be able to afford a whole run, but that doesn't mean they should have to gamble on a different difficulty then on having to convince all the players to change that difficulty.

I am sure if you have the whole run, and ask nicely, they will let you 'power down'.

While I try to run 1 of each NM run with teams, it is not always possible.

I fell victim to this for 1 run - I walked in with a NM ticket to a group who had purchased 9 of the others - kitted out with only the freebie packs from that year. While I did not want to give up the NM run - it really would NOT have been fun to grind through with this particular group as intended.

While this may sound harsh - if a run is intended to be NM, it should STAY NM - until players know that they cannot switch a dedicated run, the value of that dedication is negated.
I can't help being a gorgeous fiend. It's just the card I drew.

I can see both sides' positions, and they have valid concerns. I think I would tend to side with Landspeeder on this one.
