In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Should I attempt True Grind

Re: Should I attempt True Grind 10 years 11 months ago #25

I was very hesitant to try Grind, as I'm much more of a puzzle-solver and role-player and tend to view most combat as at best a mildly dull but necessary evil.

However, once a friend convinced me to give it a shot I was surprised just how much fun I had! The fights got quite interesting, and Incognito is an impressively agile and quick-witted DM.

Although I'm not sure it's something I'd do every year (unless the participation token is to die for), I strongly recommend everyone into TD give True Grind at least one try, even if you hate combat.

Disclaimer: Of course, the fact that I slid a natural 20 for max damage, had a Greater Holy Symbol of Pelor and was 5th level during a predominately undead year (automatic 24 damage, baby!) and was universally adored by my teammates as the main party healer, might have colored my perspective a bit. :P

When I say combat, I'm not so much referring to the ability to hit an AC target, but rather the ability to quickly step up, slide, and GTF out of the way so the person standing behind you can do the same. It's been my experience that PUGs rarely have the level of cohesion Grind needs.

My advice to you would be to get together with some vets here on the forums. Your chances of having fun will be greatly increased.

Greyhounds are much better at Grind than Pugs are...although border collies are pretty good at figuring out monster weaknesses...:silly:

I almost exclusively play in PUGs, since I have no friends :P . And I've never had a problem in a Grind group.

Do the naked barbarian grind. All you get is a dagger. If you wanna go Hardcore you don't even get that. Punch 'em to death!
