In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Should I attempt True Grind

Re: Should I attempt True Grind 10 years 11 months ago #13

I have gone on a GT run but have never done a grind. Seems I have to try to cross that off my TD bucket list this year.

Indeed, Eric (Incognito) is amazing at Grind. It's a shame there's only so many slots but he gets to enjoy GenCon too ;)

Just remember, Grind is not "Immersive" as other TD runs are. It's just you, your gear, two (or more) sliding boards, and Incognito - your DM.

Yes, there is a completion token specifically for Grind this year. :)
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

So, would you do a Grind as a prep to the other runs to get your combat sliding honed? Do people use the Grind as a warm up?

Or would you do a Grind after doing regular runs?

As Druid should I be prepared to heal people at all? Or just go for damaging with spells and attacks?

I'll say thats pretty much up to you and the group you land in. In my experience we were nightmare geared but running normal so we had some leway and we wanted to "win". In my opinion, I think the real purpose of grind is to see what the challenge extent of your group actually is. I come to the conclusion because its a great combat stress test. If you want to see what your group is capable in a combat senerio this IS the way to go.

The healing vs damage debate is interesting. My gaming experience indicates the faster the monster dies the less healing required. The monsters get "tricky" in Grind so you may find those rare odditie items and spells have way more use in Grind.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

Hello! Welcome to Grind!

A lot of the recommendations in this thread depend on the difficulty level you want to play.

If you are playing Normal, then a 4th level character is fine. Even the middle difficulty (Hardcore) should be do-able at 4th level. However, for the toughest difficulty (Nightmare), 5th level is recommended but few parties actually end up doing Nightmare.

If you're doing Normal, a PUG (pick up game) is fine. If you and the strangers in your party are all well equipped, a PUG can work for Hardcore as well. But you definitely need to be well coordinated for Nightmare.

There is a "participation token" (it's not reliant on completing the Grind).

Let me know if you have any other questions and I will be happy to help out!

Hi Incognito,

There is only the one participation token for Grind, right, and it's a Rare? Does that mean that you get the rare participation token even if you do Grind on normal? If so, that's a nice additional incentive to do Grind :)

Thanks,
Mike

Correct. There is only a single participation token, and from my current understanding (i.e. unless Jeff changes his mind), yes, everyone will get that same token regardless of the difficulty level being played.

Eric is fantastic! I think the real shame is that we do not have more Incognitos.

And if you do not think that Mr. Nobody gets to have fun DMing his personal little slaughter fest... then you haven't seen the gleam in his eye upon smiting Henwy.
