In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Plinko

Plinko 11 years 2 months ago #1

I did Plinko last year and folks had fun including myself so I figured I'd bring it back again this year.

I learned alot from the experience, mostly that tokens are heavy and enough of them do actually break suitcases. :( LOL

Based on my feed back at the con I'm going to make a few changes. People seemed a little bit interested in the "special prizes" but mostly people were focused on the tokens. So I'm going to remove the special prizes. I know this means I'll loose some more experienced folks that were playing for the big prizes but it will make things easier to not have to haul the shirts and saber around and check people's tokens to see if they had one of the specials. On the flip side, I AM going to include purps in the box, so hopefully that creates some excitment.

My box model was based on the token pack distrobution but I think I'm going to alter it so its slightly better with fewer commons. I'm hoping this makes people happier. I'm also tailoring it a bit better for newer folks by removing much of the gear tokens. Too often people asked what it was for and seemed almost as confused with what they got then how they started.

The board itself played out much as I'd expected and folks had fun trying to predict how it would fall. I don't think I'll alter much except to peg it, at the con instead of before.

I thought about altering the concept some but I'll leave that alone for now.

I plan on trying to run this more than last year but we'll see how it goes. I tend to over book, but I know there were lots of folks that wanted to play and didn't get a chance too and I'd like to correct that.

The storyscape was a good place to setup due to all the foot traffic brought in by true craft and the regular adventurers. With no true craft this year(at least nothing has been announced) I'm not sure where i'll set up, probably near the adventure exit as this is the best place to find folks with time. Maybe I'll move it around or something, I do plan on making the entire operation more mobile.

If you want, let me know what you think.
thanks!

Ditto, I was sorry to have missed it last year.

:) Cool I'm glad folks enjoyed it and are wanting to play again.
For those that haven't gotten to play it yet I hope you find it!

I'm looking to improve the experience this year, not that I thought it was bad but I did see some room for improvement.

A few things I felt were clumsy I'm going to change up. Previously I had people just drop their gp token down the board. While this worked it was a touch clumsy for folks that wanted to play multiple times in the same sitting. What I think I'll do is use lore tokens as 'pucks' so I don't have to remember how many drops they still have left. Previously I was in a situation where I had to count down drops and count up pulls won. I'm dyslexic so this can prove a challenge. This also allows me some easier leway to do things like power hours or 2 pays for 3 plays and stuff like that, as all I need do is hand out more pucks. I could even get crazy and invent a "pre-game" that determines your game bonus. Like the AoW die roll.

Another thing I noticed was the board is very picky about angle. Too steep and the puck falls out, too gentle and the puck gets stuck. my previous arangement required me to us a table or wall to prop the board up, I am going to look into a free standing version or a version with its own stand.

Some of my friends have offered to run it for me so I want to make it as flawless as possible. If they help it should be availble for folks to play more often than if I try and run it alone.

If you had the resources, the best option would be to have a plexi-glass front to it. Then the posts would be more rigidly secured between the front cover, and the backboard -- something that would make the whole contraption much more durable, for the long haul.

And then, you could just stand it up completely vertical, to solve the 'stuck' problem.

But barring that level of construction, perhaps come up with some metal or stone pucks -- heavier so they are less picky about the slope, and maybe could even receive a little wax to improve the glide.

Now that Schedules are out and I have tickets for my runs I thought I'd update my "most likely" times to run this.

I have a few things to juggle about, 2 costumes this year in addition to volenteering and running TD with my crew but due to some things lining up nicely I have a large portion of Friday and Saturday open, nothing on thursday sorry. So here is my tenitive schedule.

Thursday - no appearence
Friday - From just after lunch until just before dinner(12-5)
Saturday - From just after lunch until just before dinner(12-5)
Sunday - From right at the end of TD until folks stop comming out of TD.

Last year on sunday we were ushered out of the hall when TD started to pack up shop. Everyone was going out a single door. I set up shop there for a while and had some fun esentially after the con was over. SO figure 5ish-6:30ish.

I'm just doing this to add some fun and atmosphere so if something else comes up that is more fun I might stop early, or if people don't seem interested I'll find something else to do. But I figured this would put me at 10hrs of potential play time and should cut across both volenteer shifts in part so a broad spectrum of folks should get a chance to play if they want.

I've not yet rebuilt the board or the box but the process will start soon. Light mobile and effective will be my goal.

As a side note, the special prizes have been eliminated. The box token mix will end up with approx ~ 50% common, 40% uncommon, 10% rare + a few Ultra Rares.

It was previously 70/20/10

I might try and make it 45/40/15. I'll see if the numbers work out.
I will also try my best to reduce the chance of duplicates, but its hard when I'm also removing the majority of the "functionless" tokens.

Thanks again to everyone who played last year and looking forward to this up comming year.

Fascinating. Might have to try it!

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!
