From what I understand is that part of the tavern will be for general hanging out, and that there is also an area you go into when your slot starts where you get you training and what not.
In the general area anyone can probably hang out and trade and enjoy the atmosphere. If you wanted to be in one of the TD Shops you would probably need to volunteer. I believe you talk to jenn for that. I may be wrong.

Is there going to be a place where we can trade at GenCon? The answer to my NPC trading question confused me. It implied that only people playing would have access to the tavern.

George

George,
My understanding is that anyone with a TD event pass is gurenteed entrance to the tavern. In theory anyone with a Gencon badge would be able to get in, however, we MAY need to charge a 1 drink (non-alcohilic) minimum to help cover the cost. The issue preventing people from saying "sure come in and hang out" is that due to space limitations (fire code) we may have a limit on the number of people allowed, in that case some without TD event passes may have to be turned away, or duration of time spent limited.

I think at this point we will have to wing it and see what happens and how many show up.

The above opinion is, of course, subject to Jeff's decision and implementation.

If the rules are that (given fire code issues for the room, etc.):

players may buy and sell with players at any time.

NPCs will only trade with players that are in the next 3 groups to start.

I think you have a good plan for making trading very possible and enjoyable.

If we were only trading with tokens in bags, my biggest concern would be lack of liquidity, but as long as the NPCs are willing to buy items for gold, there should be enough gold to keep the system going.

I am going to do my trading purely in gold (if possible). My intent in trading is to have fun (and get my completely maxed out warrior equipment).

Heya all. I've emailed Dequils about this already, but figured I'd cross-post to the forum, so people could discuss and/or beat me over the head as necessary:

Rope: This item is very expensive, at 40gp. I know it was extremely useful and relatively rare (supply & demand) at the last event, but I'd like to see this price come down.

Scroll of Disrupt Undead: Remarkably cheap. I know it's only useful in specific situations, but it wouldn't surprise me to see skeletons popping out of the woodwork at some upcoming event, and I think it's not *so* underpowered. I'd put it at 10gp, myself.

Magic weapons : I think these may be undervalued, if anything. Don't forget the "bling bling factor" - Armor may be sensible if you want to play with good defense, but people coming into the game all want "a cool magic weapon", and they're willing to pay more for it than for good armor. Considering that gold gets overall rarer with this recent token run, I'd up the prices a little. Probably by 50 gp for each magic weapon.

Wand of Cure Light Wounds (ans also the Scroll of Cure Lt): Pricey! and useable only by clerics (which wasn't clear last year, when people thought anyone could use it). Maybe bring that price down. or maybe not.

Thunderstone: It's useable by all, and does some decent damage. I'd consider raising the value. Maybe 80gp? maybe 100, because it's not limited to combat use.

Raven,

Thanks for the input. Although I think others might be a little confused as your comments reference a newer version of the "Price Guide" and "Token Guide". Either way though, your comments are valid and have been implemented.

Although, I'm not so sure about the value of the Thunderstone. A to-hit chance of 8 damage isnt that great even with the off chance that you could use it in a non-combat situation.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than 50gp but thats just me. I am sure more comments will come when the Official Token Guide and unofficial price guide are released later today.

One thing that should not pop up from TD today is the $$$ value for tokens as the off-market prices cannot be determined by the creators.

So let's look at this for a minute.

With the new token bag construction of 3 rares and one very rare...those 4 tokens make up the bulk of the "value" players get in a bag. Now I am not saying everyone has all the common gear tokens or all the gold he or she needs/wants - BUT I think the commons will be very easy to get your hands on. That as my first assumption, a $10 token bag could be broken down as 3 $1.50 rares and a $4.50 very rare token...(putting $1 towards all the commons as gold has its value.)

Now I am not saying that any three rares are equal to the very rare token in every case...but if you were to put a value on a RANDOM pull from a pouch...maybe they are.

The higher sought very rares could hit $11-$20 each if they are truely deemed that necessary and if supply of these tokens is not readily accessible. (i.e. they are not popping up on eBay in droves) Why couldn't someone pay twice the price of a bag for that token that eludes them so...for me the bracers of defense and an elixer for example?

The lower sought very rares (like some of the scrolls) could go as low as $2-5 depending on supply and demand again.

NOW the really interesting thing will be - if people are selling for "real" funds could someone buy a very rare scroll for $2 and make a nice turn around by trading to TD NPCs???

Gary,

To address your concern, I agree. TD should not set the value of the tokens and they won't be. However, I did include the approximate prices of the items in my very unofficial Price Guide based on a simple assumption. Assuming that everything can be liquidated, given that the bags are $10, and assuming that the approximate prices in GPs are relatively accurate, one can compute the approximate starting price in $.

I can post the formula if you are interested. :D

Douglas,

I think the point of my post was that the value of any rare or very rare is roughly $1.50 to $4.50 to the person still interested in getting more token bags...or trying their luck in other words - to those who need a very few specific tokens to fill out a collection or gear for specific character - the price may indeed be higher...however, if the off-market prices are too crazy people will be driven to buy more pouches and the market will be flooded with more tokens which would drive the price down - the formula for supply and demand kicks in and supersedes your formula I'm afraid.

Personally, I would shell out $10 for either Bracers or the Elixir IF I could not trade tokens to get them. (I can't be the only one willing to do this if open market supply is short? - would I be better off trying my luck at 10 more pouches hoping to get one of each very rare I seek??? My guess is not...)

So not knowing how many people exist that are looking for just a hand full of specific tokens - we are sort of stuck with that estimated price range until the tokens go out of print. Then we can watch the prices double or some such.

Don't get me wrong - awesome job on the GP and $$ value chart - I could not have done that good of a job - in fact I would like to either start with your base numbers on the Commodity Board or if TD has a published NPC selling guide - I could use that as the starting point...

Take care

Gary,

Point-in-fact, my formula is based on supply and demand. If the off-market prices (in $) are "too crazy" as you say, you are correct. The value of each bag, based on a random distribution will exceed $10. In other words, it would be more cost effective to buy a bag, split it and sell. But in a free market, this balances out over time. And you might have osscilations through the $10 equilibrium point but it will move towards $10 eventually. My formula ASSUMES equilibrium, and it ignores temporary fluctuations away from this equilibrium point.

The important thing to remember also is that the prices (in $) are all intertwined and relative to eachother. In otherwords, each token is a fraction of the total value of the Token Bag BASED on the individual token value.

In other words, looking at the extreme case, increasing the value of one token to 1,000,000,000 GP would make its value (in $) equal to $360. Why? Because, on average, it would take 36 bags to get it at $10 per bag and everything else would be (approximately) worthless by comparision.

So I guess what I am saying is that everything is intertwined with this sheet and there is more than meets the eye below the numbers on the page. ;)

Let me know if you have any questions about it,

Of course, this is just the first 500 bags. The rest of the bags after this (including the ones sold at the con) will only have either one rare or very rare. Supposedly.
