This is the first year that I've had a serious interest in acquiring tokens. As a result I have had the opportunity to closely look at a lot of tokens. As a direct result of a lack of interest in tokens, other than the basic knowledge needed by a DM, I have never followed the threads about token collecting. So this topic may have already been discussed to death. I tried to search for such threads and found none.
I have two 08 combo tokens (Bracelets of the Zephyr and +1 Staff of Striking) that at first appeared a little "fuzzy". But when I looked at them under a magnifier, they showed printing and picture that seem to have been struck twice, with a slightly different alignment. Similar to when a coin is struck twice in the minting process. One has "ghost images" of the fine print and the other has a definite two-tone (red and blue) quality about it. This made it look decidedly purple.
Was this common?

as a printer I can tell you that they are not double struck in the classic sense.
color printing is done with several layers; I'd guess the tokens are printed with about 5 different color inks, maybe 6. the Staff of striking shows slight errors in registration between the red, and blue (registration = how well the individual colors line up) I think nearly all of them are done that way to one degree or another.
it's a not uncommon problem, but probably was left due to time constraints ( usually they'd fix it and reprint the run)

I agree with Barry in this case, I have seen several of the trophy tokens from 2008 that seem really fuzzy (e.g., Ring of Iuz). It is not consistent for all but there are definitely some. We do need to keep a watch on the amount this happens to be able to feed back to the manufactorer in terms of quality satisfaction. But I am guessing with the numbers printed, this is bound to happen occasionally as sheets become misaligned in the printing process.

Dave

Here I thought we were going to talk about weapons that can double strike :D
Hey, wouldn't that make a cool artifact type weapon?
