I've a question about the violet prism ioun stone (as you've no doubt already gleaned from the title of this post).

If a character has equipped a violet prism, and a fellow party member casts on that character, will the ioun stone absorb the healing spell? Basically, is the stone indiscriminate in its absorption of spells, or does it only work against spells the user would want blocked?

Thanks for your thoughts.

To makes things easy, cause I could forsee an arguement here, I would submit that it should work like so:

You (the out of character you) must say when you are using it and to which spell you are applying it to. So it is sort of like an at-will ability that you can use on anyone's turn. So unless you wanted to block a party member's spell, it would not. When you (in character) are considered unconcious it still continues to work in this fashion.

Thoughts on this call?

It doesn't look optional to me, it looks like it absorbs the spells whether they are good or bad.

Of course - you can always disable it before the good spell is cast, so that it isn't active and doesn't absorb the spell.

In TD:DC the DM gave us the option to "burn a charge" when a bad spell was cast. We decided against it and went for the save.
