TOPIC: skull of doom use?

Re: skull of doom use? 15 years 1 week ago #25

Our 5 man DC run had a pretty good draw after the run. One guy got boots of warmth, my wife pulled the goblet of healing, and George pulled a purple!

I got the boots and good ingredients, but have never drawn a purp. Lookign forward to it happening, though.

JimC and I did most of our treasure pulls on Saturday, and we were under the impression that most of the better pulls (especially for Boots of Warmth) happened on Friday. We also learned later that apparently, the DC box was better for the Boots than the Retro box. Anyone else had the same experience or conclusion?

Friday, pulling from the Retro box yielded A LOT of Skeleton's Teeth. On Saturday, it resulted in a ridiculous amount of Mimic Slime (and I do mean RIDICULOUS!).

Haven't pulled anything really good in quite some time. Back in 2006 for the last GenCon SoCal, I managed to pull an artisan token (Halfling Toe Ring). And in 2007, I got a Great Axe +2 (which I promptly traded for a Ring of Focus). But I haven't gotten anything super special since then (despite going on more runs and using the Horn of Plenty). Ah well, you can't win them all.... ;/
I think I pulled 14 ingredients out of 48 overall pulls. I ended up with quite a few skeleton teeth (on my first retro run we only got one stamp which resulted in 3 gold coins (HoP); all 3 of my pulls were skeleton teeth! All from the bottom of the box but in 3 separate and distinct locations).

From the people I observed, I think the better pulls were on Friday. By mid-Saturday, the retro box was only about a third as full as it was on Friday.
Well, it's actually 1% of all bags contain a UR. Each bag contains 10 so the chances per token is one tenth of 1 percent or one draw in 1000. That would be the true ratio I guess. I advanced it up to 1% since the boxes seemed to be just reds and ingredients for the most part but that was probably not right. So I guess we would need 1000 draws to get 1 purp on average.

But since the UR replaces a common token, you could disregard the rares and uncommons in your calculations, plus another seven tokens per ten bags since those are taken up by plat commons. I'm too sleepy to work the math... someone else can do it.

It actually makes no difference. It's still 1 in 10 tokens and then 1 in 100 bags.

Don't feel bad - your Artisan Token and Great Axe +2 are better than anything anybody in my group has ever drawn from treasure, and we've been playing since 2003 and using HoP's since 2007.
