TOPIC: Did anyone use the Cestus in combat?

Re: Did anyone use the Cestus in combat? 15 years 2 weeks ago #25
did any of the DMs see the Hammer of Thunderbolts used against the giant? Just wondering... because wondering how many people would pack a "versus such and such" type weapon. I still want a Wyrmslayer weapon... just to Jeff has to track down an articulated dragon. ;-)
Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.

I think there has to be a limit on the cestus. We don't let nets and crap stack with itself. The same sort of limitation should affect the cestus. I think a cumilative -6 max sounds good.
Yeah, if I recall, only one net and one tanglefoot bag can be in effect, throw on the repetative power of the Cestus and combined you could take off lots of armor from a foe. I don't think overcomplicating it with tracking natural armor (something the net and tanglefoot bag could affect) and worn armor (something the cestus could affect) would be the right solution, so just putting a limit on the amount of AC a monster can loose might more sense (-6 which could come from any combination of the known AC reducing items).

As for someone asking about the Fey Wand, I believe an earlier post addressed that you could get a -3 from the wand, -2 from color spray, and -2 from hypnotic pattern, but that was it, no double tapping from the wands or scrolls as the target was already under the initial effect.

-2 AC from cestus if that's the limit is still pretty amazing. That right there is almost equal to a bard after the first round.

-6AC, well, at that point the monster should be dead.

I think the DM's have been pretty flexible wth items since the new token guide isn't out. Until then, let it be the only item that stacks with itself.

Honestly, I'm a noob anyway so I'd just love to have one :)

A maximum cestus effect sounds appropriate. You can't let it go too far, especially if you can have three going at the same time.

Personally, I would think the maximum of -6 to AC (whether from a single person hitting in three rounds or three people hitting in a single round) for the combat is quite reasonable. Of course, maybe that's just me.
