ok, so with the precedent set that certain style of tokens dont work for true arena the way some people expect them to, can we get a ruling on the +2 dagger of venom? how will that work for true arena?
possibilities i can see:
1. every slide that hits '20' gets the bonus 5 damage (both initial slide, and bonus slide for critting).
2. only the first slide of your turn can get the bonus damage.
3. you only get the bonus damage if you slide a '20' on the extra crit slide (ie. you have to slide 2 '20's to get the bonus damage once)
4. no bonus damage, if you thought there would be, sucks to be you.
5. something else im not expecting?

The fate of True Arena is up in the air at this moment. One of the organizers has commitments elsewhere -- and we are thinking of altering True Arena to make it more fun so that an entire group goes PVP verses another group. Sort of like a big brawl in a Tavern! We are playtesting it at True Realm in the Tavern, and we will see how it goes. If "True Brawl" does work out, True Arena will not be offered this year. We will post something right after True Realm.

I would suggest no tokens for brawl. TA already grinds due to all the tokens and the setup necessary. I wouldn't want to see what happens when you multiply that by 4 or 7 or whatever. Just a slidefest would be spiffy.

Just to point something out about tokens and True Arena; my friend went to do this and was VERY disappointed that when he did it, even though he had some decent tokens, it really seemed to him to be a situation when whoever had the best tokens was the winner, and the skill didn't matter so much. So, he said he wouldn't be trying it again. I therefore would be in favor of having some TD event that does rely so heavily on tokens.

I agree that token quality is critical in TA, but I watched the person with the best tokens lose.

Eh, from my experience, it's much more about skill than tokens. Most of the time, I was up against near mirror matches.

It's not too hard to come up with a reasonable selection of tokens. Plate Mail, a +1 weapon, a Shield (+2 or +3) and then a couple of + AC items. Yeah, you might face someone with slightly better stuff than you, but that only makes a marginal difference. If anything, newer tokens only further help level the playing field (last year's Tower Shield is equivalent to Dragonscale Shield, this year's Torc of Natural Armor is as good as Bracers+2).

I did hear that last year, some people went in with barely any tokens at all - and I do agree that they would get walloped. But it's not too hard to come up with a competitive set. Plus, lots of people seemed to borrow. In fact, it seemed A LOT of the all Purp people (and I wasn't even close to that) simply borrowed from their friends (alas, none of mine play).

It would be interesting if the group had to be all of unique character classes, like when you go through a dungeon, instead of everyone just being fighters. Although I see logistically that would be a lot more difficult.

I agree that tokens help but in the end its all about your sliding skill. If you cant hit AC15 then it doesnt matter if they have Plate or Hide armor on because you arent going to win.

A quick story of last TA. I was against a much better geared fellow and on the 3rd round he blinded me for the rest of the match. I slid like that to an outcome of him winning with 0 hp to my -4.

This sounds like fun!! I know Jeff didn't ask for ideas, but I'm going to offer them anyway:

I think it would be neat to create True Brawl specific sliders (or perhaps tokens) with random stuff you'd find in a tavern/bar like chairs and bottles and such. Allow only those "improvised" weapons to be used to simulate the bar brawl experience.

Affix each item into a slider and put all the sliders in an opaque bag that the combatants draw from prior to the battle thus simulating the fact that in a brawl you use whatever is at hand.

Each fighter could call whom they were going to attack on the other team. If some method could be devised for doing this without everyone knowing who anyone else is attacking that would be cool.

Last team with a man standing wins.
If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Skill has a lot to do with it. Most of the time I was up against a person who had better armor than me, but armor does not beat multiple 20s. I won Grand Champion in 2008 and would like to see True Arena go on as is. It is a very fun game and one of the few that is for the individual.

It would be hard to build teams. If you have a team of 7 and can't find another how is it fair to go up against a team of 8? I'm not really bias against teams, because even though I won last year, I could do poorly this year. I won one quarterfinal and my team would consist of my two friends and my son, of which all won the three other quarter final rounds.

how ablout letting the winner of each round of True Arena get to loot 1 item from the dead? this would probably spell the end of purple clad opponents, but it might be fun.
