TOPIC: Trade Items - update

Re: Trade Items - update 15 years 1 month ago #25

Also, to make sure I'm clear on this:

Darkwood Acorn and Black Lotus count as "items" and have a gp value, so you could use them for Darkwood Planks OR Reserve bars?

And "Items" doesn't include "Wondrous Items"?

So, Wands would not currently count for trade goods, adding to Kurtreznor's list.

Dave does the "not yet traded for planks" apply for Steel, hide, also? I have some, but not enough for the items I want but I have enough to trade in.

Yes, if it came down to not having time to trade for the trade item, I would take the requisite number of tokens in lieu of the trade token. Keep in mind this is all a matter of degrees as well. If you come to me with 2000 tokens wanting to turn those in to various combo recipes, it will not make the people happy around you. If that is the case, you need to get with me before hand. If we are only talking about one instance where you have one or two combos to trade for and did not have time to make one of the Trade items, then sure I would take say 25 common armor in place of a Minotaur hide.

So:
1. You want to trade for two of the Trade Combos, and you have two stacks of 25 tokens in lieu of two individual Trade Item Tokens, OK.

2. You want to trade for 10 of the Trade Combos and you have 20 stacks of 25 tokens you have to stand in front of me for 15 minutes counting out, not OK. You should make arrangements to turn in the 20 stacks some time before the Combo trading time....

In combo exchanges, I am trying to be considerate of people's time waiting in line. So anything that requires an inordinate amount of time, e.g., sorting through a bag of loose tokens because you are sure that one item is in there somewhere, is not really considerate of the others who want to trade.

potions, ammo, and clothing (that is not armor) do not trade into anything yet?

Correct.

You know, I made that earlier statement under duress, so technically the Acorn and Lotus should not be in the item category, I wll correct the list. had I been abel to get the toekn guide out earlier, this would not be an issue.

Ultimately, it will really boil down to what is in the gear and Misc Item category, rather than what is the name on a token as the Gear and Item distinction on tokens has been dropped and adopted over the years in an inconsistent manner. Since I said they could be used on the forum, I will not turn them away, I will not be officially listing them or encouraging their use as items, however.

So yes, wands and rings currently have no direct trade Ingredients. I am not sure they will have, as the numbers available for trade are pretty small. I suppose you could have a general "Magical Item" trade token but that would require some careful planning. Maybe for next year...

I dunno - I like the idea that ITEMS that have a GP value are still considered ITEMS.

What is so wrong about having a few things that could make Reserve Bars OR Trade Items?

The KIS approach is good - but a few exceptions are fine too. It just does not seem like there are as many items in the sets as in years past so maybe keeping the Lotus as a wild card would be good??

I guess I really do not care, I was just trying to alleviate confusion by being able to state only things in the Misc. Items or Gear sections qualify. Similarly to the way I deal with weapons and armor.

I guess I am open to a good offer for trading. But ultimatley people would have to work out whether it was worth more as six units toward a Trade Ingredient or X GP for a Reserve Bar.

I think TD should follow the suit of CCG companies and have online virtual tokens. I want to buy tokens that don't weigh anything. A nice authorized printout is all I want and need.

as a suggestion for people doing lots of trade-ins, go to the grocery store and pick up one of those little boxes of 100+ ziploc sandwich baggies. for each combo, just put in all the tokens and a slip of paper that says what those will make. for the trade combos, i have a couple baggies with 25 items labeled 'darkwood plank' that are inside a second baggie with the rest of the ingredients labeled 'orb of pelor'. ie. baggie inside a baggie makes it much easier to understand what is going on. this has worked wonders for me in keeping tokens sorted, and easily available when needed...and when making trades, all tokens for each item are easily located (not mixed up with ANY other tokens), and also not bound up (when they ask to see everything, open baggie and pour onto table).

And having things organized in baggies make them easier to handle and trade in - I write directly on the baggie with a Sharpie!

You guys are right. That is how we sort our tokens from the beginning. It works.

The very first year with combo woodies, I decided to stack them in piles and then I duct taped the whole thing together into one giant silver wad. Lotsa sticky tokens. Ba dum dum
