Very Latest Ultra Rare Tokens! 15 years 6 months ago #1

Here are the latest images of the Ultra Rare tokens. There have been some changes...thanks to your good feedback. Some of them....some of you...won't like much!

+2 Double-Edged Sword: The power we had was really cool, but as some people pointed out in the Forum and PM, it has many potential problems. I wish it was not so. However, after long debate we decided that it had to change to something that would provide much less problems and issues. So, we went with another "double-edged" idea -- one of the sword doing damage to the wielder. And no other modifiers would add to the damage. It would always be a set 3 points of damage. To make up for this nastiness, we made the sword even better damage-wise.

Hammer of Thunderbolts: I love 1st AD&D, so I wanted to make this weapon straight out of those rules -- but it was just too complicated. So, we made it just like the Mace of Dispelling.

Circlet of the Arch-Druid: We killed the charges on this token thanks to the great idea of DarkRose50. Now, basically, the Druid can use it once per adventure provided she gives up two 2nd level spells (or twice if she is 4th level). We killed the extra damage on a "20", too.

Crown of Might: We took out the immunities and made it just +1 to AC. Adding +1 to AC for most classes is good enough.

We also upgraded some images thanks to your feedback.

Have another look! Thanks.

I like the change to the circlet and I can live with the change to the double edged sword.

Kim

So the Crown is +1 AC taking up the helm slot and open to all CHARS...right?

Correct. Power creep on its face, but after we added all these other "head" slots for non-fighters I am not sure all that many will see that much use. And I plan on more "head" slot items next year.

Oh, about the Mithral Helm.

I have a plan that is pretty cool, but it won't take effect for another two years. Once you get all 5 Mithral items, something cool might happen. Stay tuned.

Oh, and thanks to Dennis for the idea!

huh...some good changes...but i still wonder about the mithral helmet. is the mithral set intentionally available only to the heavy hitters? i just find it strange that the original discussion on the shield based on optimizing bonuses was 'we thought this was a ranger set, now it is bard set'...now neither can use it. i just want confirmation that the intention is to only allow the heavy hitters.

also, im curious why the crown of might was given/changed-to +1AC...if having both that and the immunities is too much, i prefer immunities.

does anyone even read this?

This still doesn't make sense to me. As of now there are only two classes that can complete the set (Fighter and Paladin). At the expense of the +1 Plate Armor. Just don't see it. This looks like a perfect item for the Ranger and that was the discussion last week and one reason for changing it from a shield to a helm.

If you're going to make this a five item set, be careful not to make it impossible for anyone to wear it. And it better have a real good power to offest the AC loss.

My preference is to allow the Ranger to use the helm. In 3.5 the ranger can wear a chain shirt which comes with a steel cap. (I know you prefer 1.0 but this is just an example, and I too lazy to dig out my 1.0 books (wherever they are)).

Frankly, I wish sets and powers would be announced ahead of time. It would make it easier to figure out whether you want to pick it up or not. It hasn't affected me all that much but I'll bet it's killing some potential competionists out there.

Yow, that is a pretty sharp sword- you'll put your eye out, kid. :O

When the 2Edge does damage to the user, do they add their strength's damage bonus to it? =D (had to ask) If it were me, I would make the seven the "backbiter" number- but I am a sadistic DM at heart.

Thanks for re-size on the dagger, looks great!

I like the change to the Druid circlet. I still don't think the other circlet is worthy of UR status, though.

Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.

Was there any official word on if the charm affects spell slides? Does it also affect scrolls? For that matter what about consumable thrown items? (Thunderstone, Holy Water, etc.)

Also how about wording the charm like '1 extra token for each "20" slid during combat' to clear up the fact that you can end up with multiple extra draws.

On the Ring of Fire Elemental Command, I would really like to see '&' instead of '\' in the description.

The 'Immunity to undead mind control' on the Mithral Helm seems unnecessarily limited. Why does it not work against other forms of mind control?

Can we get some more information the the Might set? Are all the pieces going to be usable by all classes? What slots will the other pieces use? This will be helpful in determining whether or not to get the Crown.

I like the new pictures of the crown and circlet.

All good changes it seems. The Double-Edged Sword has a VERY minor drawback now, it might be the best token in the set now (if you're a Fighter).

The Circlet is a possibility now, although - what 2nd level spells does the Druid have? I wouldn't want to trade in any healing spells, but any other spells would be fine.

I agree that the Crown of Might is just fine at +1 AC - for those classes that can't wear Helms, this is a must-have item.
