The spyglass looks better, but that's still a quality of metal work well beyond the capabilities of that era, not even conisdering the knowledge to set up refraction of light at very specific focal lengths. Did you consider just a curved piece of cut glass with a metal ring around it, like a crude magnifying glass, operating as a magnifier? Or are you looking for something more?

Dwarves can build magic mirrors, mages can contruct magical items and instruments that play by themselves, and you think they couldn't make a spyglass???????

It's GNOMISH!! They defy the capabilities of the era!

Comments (apologies if these have been mentioned before):

Rares:

1) It still seems like the +1 Arrow of Doom is very weak, it is a one-shot item that most of the time is little better than the common Masterwork Arrow.

2) At first sight the "9" at the end of the Darkwood Staff looks like it should be a "6", but I see how it got bumped up because the two numbers before it are each lower by one than normal.

3) Should the Fairie Iron Armor be modified like the Fairie Iron Shield and Commander's Lorica Segment was, giving it only a base +4 AC, with the higher conditional AC? If not, it is clearly better than the Elven Chain, which is power creep making the Elven Chain obsolete.

4) Should the Pilum of Lightning say "All Monsters"? By just saying "all", does that mean party members also take the 2 damage?

5) Should the "Form: Wolf" be part of the name of the Potion of Polymorph (like Potion Polymorph Into Wolf)? That way you can make more Potions of Polymorph in the future without being confused that they have the same name, by including the name of what you are polymorphing into as part of the name of each. Otherwise, the name of all the tokens is the same (Potion Polymorph).

6) Thanks for upping the value of the Black Lotus!! =)

Uncommons:

1) The Fairie Iron Club is equivalent damage to the Longsword, and is one-handed, so it shouldn't have the Rogue as one of the classes that can use it. "Rogue" should be deleted.

2) Potion Polymorph - see above comments - make "Form Otter" part of token title.

Commons:

1) I really like the way you put "10 GP" on top of "Flint Nodule", it makes it MUCH easier to see how much it is worth. I wish you did that with all the items that are worth GP.

2) Perhaps make the wording consistent on the tokens. Either use the Pugio wording "All Classes except Cleric" or the Obsidian Dagger wording "Usable by all except Cleric".

I see the shuriken picture (on the common) is back to the original. Done on purpose?

Are the shurikens now permanent? (I see one use per combat). Does that mean someone with a handfull can throw them in subsequent rounds?

I agree with Mike, the +1 Arrow of Doom is underpowered (compared the the uncommon +1 arrow or even a lowly masterwork arrow). Maybe make it a +2 arrow of Doom instead.

The Slingstone of Thunder has been nerfed too much. It is twice as rare as the uncommon version yet does only one additional point of damage. I suggest making it +5 (that's still one less than the original version, yet makes it definitely distnguishable from the uncommon forms).

I like the Faerie-Iron armor as is. Yes it does make the Elven Chain obsolete, but that's the point (planned obsolesance = more token sales).

The advantage of the +1 shuriken over the Masterwork shuriken is just +1 to hit - same damage, right?

Is the pilum of lightning consumable? I assume not - is it one throw per combat?

How will Ioun Stone - Violet Prism work? Will DMs have info on what level spells monsters can cast?

Slingstone of Stunning and Scroll - Summon Insects should be consistent in wording - one says "DC-15 Fort save," and the other says "Fort DC-12 save."

Can Scroll - Summon Insects have a kewler name, like Scroll - Insect Plague or Scroll - Creeping Doom?
Even the genre dwarves and gnomes that created contraptions of amazing ability did not have the ability to create castings like the frame of the spyglass in the picture, but then again it's fantasy, so why not? it's OK with me.

1) It still seems like the +1 Arrow of Doom is very weak, it is a one-shot item that most of the time is little better than the common Masterwork Arrow.

But don't forget that Arrows can be modified by the Flaming Shortbow and the Mighty Longbow -- so we have to be careful not to give players using these items even more damage.

I thought about this a lot, and I think I am going to leave it as is. I don't want to penalize new players with no good Rare armor for Rogues, etc., and it is only a small "flavor" bonus verses a small monster set.

4) Should the Pilum of Lightning say "All Monsters"? By just saying "all", does that mean party members also take the 2 damage?

We could not fit "monsters" on the token, but I will try the word "foes"

5) Should the "Form: Wolf" be part of the name of the Potion of Polymorph (like Potion Polymorph Into Wolf)? That way you can make more Potions of Polymorph in the future without being confused that they have the same name, by including the name of what you are polymorphing into as part of the name of each. Otherwise, the name of all the tokens is the same (Potion Polymorph).

In the guide we can name it whatever we want. We just don't have room for more words in the title.

6) Thanks for upping the value of the Black Lotus!! smiley

Uncommons:

1) The Fairie Iron Club is equivalent damage to the Longsword, and is one-handed, so it shouldn't have the Rogue as one of the classes that can use it. "Rogue" should be deleted.

Agreed.

Got it.

I see the shuriken picture (on the common) is back to the original. Done on purpose?

It has always been that pic. These are special "celtic" shuriken!

Are the shurikens now permanent? (I see one use per combat). Does that mean someone with a handfull can throw them in subsequent rounds?

Kinda. You can use one token ONCE per combat. After that it is assumed you picked it up after the fight.

The big thing it has going for it is the sonic damage. Nothing is immune to that, and some monsters take big damage from sonic energy. ;/

I like the Faerie-Iron armor as is. Yes it does make the Elven Chain obsolete, but that's the point (planned obsolesance = more token sales).

Heck yeah! I'm all about the money! Woohoo!

The advantage of the +1 shuriken over the Masterwork shuriken is just +1 to hit - same damage, right?

And your shurikens don't look quite as silly! =D

Is the pilum of lightning consumable? I assume not - is it one throw per combat?

It is a consumable.

How will Ioun Stone - Violet Prism work? Will DMs have info on what level spells monsters can cast?

I would hope.

It is an old 1st ed. druid spell. I bumped it up to DC-15 because some things counter insects while a pure magic effect would always work. Sorry, I am too old school to use another name, but we might still see Creeping Doom someday. I love that spell!

Re: Very Latest Common-Rare Token Images! 15 years 6 months ago #12

Common:

Fireseed Hollyberry - this looks like the only token that uses 'One' instead of '1'. While I like 'One' better, I doubt changing all tokens to that would make much sense time wise, space wise, etc.

Masterwork Arrow - 'pt' needs a period after it.

Obsidian Dagger - same as Fireseed Hollyberry, seems numbers are used on most of the tokens. Might as well stay consistent. Also to stay consistent, the class restriction should read 'All classes except Cleric' and loose the parentheses.

Pugio - How about shrinking the image on this one a little bit? As it is the image is bigger than most of the other weapons yet a dagger is the smallest of them.

Scroll Detect Life & Scroll Detect Glyph - Do these scrolls work like Detect Poison? I am a little unclear on what 'allows detection' means. Is it like Detect Magic where you walk around with some form of UV light? If not, maybe the text on Detect Poison is more appropriate. Something like 'Reveals all Glyphs in room'.

Shuriken - For consistency, '2/round' should be '2 per round' also '1 use per combat' should be in parentheses.

Silver Sickle - to stay consistent with the way daggers are worded it should read 'All classes except Cleric & Wizard'

Spiked Buckler - should read 'Adds +1 to AC'. Also none of the other class-specific items mention 'only' or have parentheses. How about just putting 'Ranger'.

Uncommon:

Faerie-Iron Club - should say 'All classes except Wizard'

Good Fruit - 'and' should become '&'

Greater Mistletoe - Does this need to say permanent item? All of the consumables are pretty obvious (e.g. scrolls, potions) or specifically say '1 use only'. How about something like '+1 to spell damage'

Masterwork Shuriken - Same as Shuriken above.

Oakspirit Armor - should be 'Adds +7 to AC'

Scroll Hypnotic Pattern - how about wording it like 'All monsters in room are -2 to saves'

Wolf Totem Armor - should read 'Adds +4 to AC & +1 to Reflex saves'. Also this is usable by all the same classes as Leather Cuirass, can you represent the classes along the curved line in the same way?
