PURP for next year:  +2 Broadsword of Protection:  Paladin Only.  Average damage is 7 (halfway between a +2 Longsword and the +2 Double-Edged Sword), or Average Damage is 6.5 but prevents the first point of damage from any melee attack.  Paladin takes 2nd round attacks from Monsters.  <br /><br />This way, the Fighter and Paladin can be at the point, protecting the rest of the party from Monsters for the first two rounds of combat.  <br /><br />How's that for a solution? 

That's correct; I'm not suggesting making this a multi-class item, just to make it sensible as a Fighter-only weapon. I could see this weapon as Fighter-only if it had some characteristic that truly made it a weapon other classes couldn't/wouldn't use. I would keep the increased damage wheel, I like the draw of first targeted attacks, but maybe add something along the lines of passing some damage from the attack to another party member.  <br /><br />One thought:<br /><br />"Wielder is the target of the opponent’s first attack, must give half damage to 1 party member."
