TOPIC: 2009 Uncommon Tokens -- Feedback please!

Re: 2009 Uncommon Tokens -- Feedback please! 15 years 7 months ago #25

meh, im mostly indifferent to monks getting stuff as long as it isnt a 'monk only' item, and i would be fine with monks getting absolutely nothing...im one of those people that tries to ignore that there is a monk class. i have lots of good equipment, including some purps, for ALL NINE classes, so that i can keep my friends equipped. there is a tenth bag, but it only has 2x +1 bracers of the dragonfist and nothing else, so hopefully noone ever asks for that one.

Thank You Jeff for giving the Monk more options. I was getting tired of the default vanilla equipment. Im glad i get to make chocies now with equipment and use bracers that i dont have to fight with. Ignore all those "monks should'nt have equipment whiners" Thanks again!!!!

I think monks will look sweet wearing Purple pimp hats =D

<snip>
As shown by those numbers, the cleric is getting no loving this year. The wizard and the monk both have more weapons that they can use then the cleric does. You definitely need to bring back something equivalent to a heavy mace for the cleric.
<snip>
The cleric needs a couple more common and uncommon weapons; the druid could use 1 more uncommon weapon, the rogue needs 1 more uncommon, and the bard could use 1 more uncommon weapon.

As much as I like the halbred, I suggest replacing it with something usable by the cleric and druid (and maybe the bard).

Yikes! I had no idea the Cleric was getting hardly any usable weapons this year. I second the motion to give the cleric something at this level.

I count 4 weapons useable by the cleric. (5 if you count the sling) 2 common and 2 uncommon. There should be additional in rare and especially the mace in the UR. Seems like it should be enough.

I agree with 3 armors at +5. Maybe drop the Oakspirit armor to +4?

The pictures look awesome! The scroll pics are especially cool.

I dunno - the Cleric had a bunch of stuff last year, and I see quite a few items that load up the arsenal!

Maybe one nice item...but only if something else has to go.

As long as a beginner, who doesn't have access to last year's tokens, has some options. As for monks and their weapons... I am waiting to see if this one makes the UR list next year...

The sling bullets of fire and frost look like donut holes covered with frosting to me. Maybe if they had some kind rune they would look better. Every thing else looks amazing.

No wonder I liked those pictures.... I second the 'mmmm donuts' comment.

In the Potion: Polymorph Otter I'd make the word Otter bigger.

Yes, the Toad and Ferret runestones are exactly the same. If you turn one of them upside down, it's another valid celtic rune, at least based on the cheap computer game I play.

Is it supposed to be Lorica Squamatea, or Squamatca? Hard to read. (You say tomato...)

You should sell some Caps of the Owl (full size) at True Realm. We could get our names embroidered on the back.

Thanks for the feedback. Some of this stuff is just screws up by us putting the wrong class listings in. Keep the feedback coming. We will have a second round of Uncommon token images on Thursday.

Thanks, again!
Very Nice!

Shouldn't Cap of the Owl say "Usable by all"?

The Lyre of Rage is undoubtedly better than the Masterwork Bard's instrument - which is already very powerful. The Lyre of Rage would be better as a +1 to Hit / +1 Damage, or just +2 to Hit like the Masterwork Bard's Instrument.

Many of the scrolls don't say they are good for only one room or combat. Should they?

[/quote

We usually only put "Usables" on weapons and armor. If there is no class included in the border, (like Anti-Toxin, some Potions, Rings)

I need to re-word that so it is better understood. Basically, the Masterwork Lute allows the Bard to give a +1 "to hit" and a +2 to damage modifer. This lute flips that and makes it +2 "to hit" and +1 to damage. Normally, Bards are +1/+1. Should I just say that this items gives +1 "to hit" in addition to the Bard's normal "+1/+1"? Any ideas how to get this across in a few words?

All potion and scroll effects last only 1 room so we usually leave it off. We usually put it on stuff that might be confusing like missiles and such.

I guess then the Scroll of Detect Poison needs to have the "in one room" removed.

Regarding the Masterwork Bard's Instrument - I thought a Bard using that just gave the party +2 Damage like the token says, I did not know that the Bard also gave the party +1 to Hit. We've had the Bard singing in every room, and I'm pretty sure that no DM has ever given us a +1 to hit, they've just given us +2 Damage (I think we don't even get that sometimes - but that's another discussion). If it stacked with what the Bard already did (+1/+1 you said), and the token said +2 damage - wouldn't that be a total of +3 damage and +1 to hit?

To be consistent with the wording of the Masterwork Bard's Instrument, the Lyre of Rage should just say +2 to Hit. But, if it really gives +2 to hit and +1 Damage, it should probably say that. I'd change the Masterwork Bard's Instrument wording to +2 damage and +1 to hit if it ever is reprinted - I'm sure that no DM has ever known to give us a +1 to hit in addition to the +2 Damage listed on the token. Does that mean that Wydsyth's Mystical Lute also gives +2 Damage and +1 to Hit, even though the token just mentions the +2 to Hit?

I think my head hurts now...

How about "Additional +1 to hit while bard plays"?

First of all, give the Bard's talent a specific name- like "Bardsong". Then you can specifically state- "+1/+0 enhancement to Bardsong". A DM should know that Bardsong is normally +1/+1 and translate it to +2/+1... unfortunately, this will not jive with earlier versions of the Lute text.
