TOPIC: Latest on Token Details

We are now entering the "design the tokens" stage, so we should have some artwork posted at the beginning of next week (Commons) -- and hopefully by next Friday we will have all the token art out for your feedback.<br /><br />Thanks again for the smart and lively debates -- and I did make a few MORE changes with your latest comments.  (For example, the Mithral Shield is now a helm).<br /><br />Next week should be fun.  Stay tuned.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new tokens!  You're really moving fast this year (it seems that way at least).  <br />I womder - when is the deadline for ordering 2008 Tokens?  You might get a surge of orders from people getting desired tokens before they go out of print.

Why would the shield now be a helm? I thought it made a lot more thematic sense as a shield, not only as a nod to past DnD shields of reflection but all the way back to Clash of the Titans. Not to mention, it would fit the whole item balance where we usually have AC +X for an item or AC + (X-1) with a special ability as compared to the tower shield last year. Changing it to a helm directly upsets this balance giving us a +3 AC helm with a special ability which makes it immediately better than the dragonscale helm available just the previous year which only had +2 and a special ability. Seeing as they were both sets it's clear that one is better than the other (Not that i even ascribe to the theory that being part of a set somehow offsets an underpowered item).  I guess you could make it a mithril helm if the AC were dropped to +2 which would make it sort of on par with the dragonscale helm, both being +2 with a special ability. It just seems sorta odd to lose the theme elements mentioned above. Was there any particularly good reasoning behind shifting it to a helmet?

I hope the Helm is no more powerful than the Dragonscale Helm - I guess we will see it by next Friday. I'm interested in seeing all the last minute tweaks.

Just change them to mithril pantaloons AC1 +10 to will save versus potty breaks.

Ah. I had forgotten the dragonscale shield. I guess that would make sense about why Jeff might not want 2 competing shields for the same general group of characters in the same year. I never even thought of that. I guess it makes good sense from a practical standpoint but it's still sad to lose the themeatic aspects for the mithril shield. I guess it leaves it open to doing a shield of reflection next year or some other time. It just seems like it would have fitted nicely with the whole 'mithril = shiny' idea.<br /><br />Crap. <br /><br />While I was typing this I came up with a great (well, from my perspective) new item.<br /><br />Mithril Codpiece of protection: +1 AC Prevents Critical Hits against the wearer. <br /><br />Heh. It adds to AC, but I figure it's balanced by the whole losing out on + STR or +2 to melee damage. Not to mention, it's 'teh funny'.

Really? I always thought a DM rolling a 20 added some amount of damage. There are no crits against players? That's just wrong. WTH? Why haven't you DM's revolted and protested over that? Not letting a DM crit players is like taking away the Marquis de Sade's favorite red hot poker. Hell, i don't even DM and I demand crit hits be alllowed back in against players. If not double damage (for fear of too much instadeath) then at least a suped up hit)

I don't think a Ranger can use a helm, they weren't able to wear the Dragonscale or the Helm of Clear Thought.

Come to think of it I don't think I have even seen a DM roll a 20!
