TOPIC: New Trade Items

Re: New Trade Items 15 years 6 months ago #62

That was the first time I think the classic one on one duel (repeated very often) was put into outer space
Of all the traits of humanity, there is only one we do not share with other species, which sets us apart and makes us unique
-- the ability to imagine.

**GASP**!

Now Mike, some kids actually played OUTSIDE when they were young.

Yeah, my Grandma wouldn't let me use the Club of Earthquakes in the house.

Hey - I played outside when I was young! But I did watch all the Star Trek episodes in reruns as I was growing up, including the animated ones. Captain Kirk was my hero growing up =)

Not to get off the Gornish hijacking of this thread, but I'd like to make a suggestion as to what the 25 common items could be traded for. (This assumes a trade is made available for 25 common items.) Instead of trading them into a Trade Good, could they be transformed into some sort of minor golem/construct? I'm not suggesting a full-blown golem, but something that (in the game) would stand about 1' tall. On a token, there could be a picture of some artifact creature that has obviously been cobbled together from common items, and perhaps a damage ring (1d4). The golem could make melee attacks (hence the damage ring) and could be attacked in return; should it take any damage from an attack, it would be destroyed and the token surrendered. To prevent a player from walking around with an army of golems, each player could be limited to one in play at a time.

The golem token could additionally be used in a combo recipe, as the other Trade Goods could. There could also be different golems available, depending on what common items were redeemed. Perhaps one could climb walls (no attack value), allowing bonus treasure to be hidden above the players. One could have lifting/carrying abilities instead of an attack value. Another could make a loud noise that would distract monsters.

I think it could be fun to create a Trade Item that had some immediate benefit, and wouldn't just sit in a collection for a year or two. It might also encourage some newer players to go through the trade-in process if they knew they could get a neat token without having to buy $250 worth of tokens. And, since the golem can be destroyed, it is a temporary item (which makes sense since common items were used to make it), and if people want more of them, they'll have to buy more tokens to trade in.

Just my two cents worth. I hope the Token Makers find some merit in it.

Why not just make this a 'combo' item then?

That would work, too.

Just thought I'd post my idea for other: perhaps allow people to trade in 25 of any particular item for an obsidian or plantinum version of that particular token.

I can see PLAT (but I would guess not many would trade 25 REDS for a single RED PLAT)

And I think it is safe to say that the ONYX backs were basically promised to be exclusive to the 800 bag buyers...

Gary,
While I think you are basically correct, currently the onyx tokens have been used as promotion.

I am not sure that Jeff holds that usage as exclusive, however. I could see other special uses, thank you's, or even some winding up in a treasure gennerator as some of the combos tend to. Still not many, but a few maybe. Whatever strikes Jeff as a good idea at the time.

I am not saying it will happen, I just don't want to set any option in stone as even stone has a way of turning to flesh....

Dave
