TOPIC: Hourglass of Answers???

Hourglass of Answers??? 15 years 8 months ago #1

Okay after scrounging through the token guide and looking at the token database over at TD Fans I can find nothing about the Hourglass of Answers other than it was printed in 2003 and 2004. SO what does it do?

How messed up is that an item called the Hourglass of Answers only leaves me with questions???? =|

You could use it to ask questions. Think of it like an augury or divination spell.

But would they be cryptic answers like you get from the Rogue's chest?

It was on the 2004 set board that SMAK won...I got a look at it, and the harder to find Potion of HASTE!

I can take a pic of my HoA later tonight and post if you like.

There was some sort of mix-up in 2005 I think it was (maybe 2006) where the Hourglass was released again in packs given out at GenCon...I think there was a lack of REDS to build packs and the Hourglass was grabbed and used. I saw at least 3-4 of them come right out of packs!

I think this is another token where the collector's value greatly exceeds the play value of the token.

The hourglass of answers summoned the "Oracle of Meuti (sp)" [Jeff Martin in a mask].

You could ask the oracle some simple questions, the answers might be rather vague, however.

Dave
It was used ONCE by a group in 2004. I was not there so Lance filled in and gave them an answer. Unfortunately, it was not a well-worded question so the Oracle did not find it necessary to be forthright with a good answer.

Perhaps Muti will return some day...

BTW, this "token" has been used at JefCON since 1999 when all groups got a small hourglass to summon Muti the Orge Mage for his sometimes murky and always mocking answers. Sometimes they just summoned him to throw dice at him.

That was socal 04' in the library room. A wall clue I think brought you to the number 7. So you needed to find card 7 among 10 or 15.

The puzzle had books, and cards face down. You needed to pick the right card to find the key underneath to open the door. Picking the wrong card you took damage.
There were four books.
Titled
One
Two
Three
The fourth one appeared blank unless you used detect magic I think. This book was on the right of the shelf.
Magic revealed something like: As easy as One, Three, Two.

That was your clue that the order of the cards was not numerical but alphabetical.
So the card number you were looking for you had to go alphabetically to find, not number order.

The adventurers vague asked what one should we pick? Without specifying card or books.

So the Oracles answer was, You should pick the right one.

So then the adventurers fought over did he mean right as in correct. Or right as in right side. Was he referring to the cards? Or to the books?
It was great. heehehe they totally confused themselves more and spent valuable time musing over what the oracle meant. Where as if they had paid attention to the fourth book, furtherest right one. And saw there was no writing unlike the other three they may have figured there was a hidden clue to figuring out what the order of cards was.

That library room was TOUGH on our party! We picked something like 3 incorrect cards and got pushed out of the room!

No-one died...but he burned lots of healing early!
