TOPIC: gems and stuff

with all this trading in of gold and such, i was wondering if i need to hold on to gems and things that aren't gold/electrum/platinum/etc.<br /><br />this year the gold blessing rod and the blood opal charm are the hot items...but the blood opal ring and blood opal necklace isn't anything special other than their value of 100 and 200 respectively.<br /><br />i guess i'm wondering if i'm going to be screwed out of a +6 handaxe of invincibility or a potion of foss altus 2 or 3 years from now if i don't save all my star sapphires, ruby rings and sardonyx gems.<br /><br />anybody?

There is no way to predict future use in combo items, so it's pretty much guessing!<br /><br />Some people take gold (or items with printed GP value) in trade at a certain rate, and the auction any given year is done in GP as well. Whether you actually will need a given item for a combo in a future year though is a complete crapshoot.

I am not going to pretend there is a method to my madness of creating the combo tokens and their ingredients.  However, I usually run the recipe past one or two collectors to see if they think the list is reasonable given rareness of tokens, availability, etc.  <br /><br />I guess it depends on how many combos you typically make, if it is only one or two if each, then keeping one or two of any particular token from past years is probably enough.  If you are out to make twenty of each, then you may need to keep more of a specific token.  <br /><br />If I ask for any tokens in great quantity, they will likely be from the current year's list, however.<br /><br />Dave

there was one hint for future years, I can't remember if it was a post or on a podcast, but crystal decantaurs were flagged for possible future potions (perhaps one shot Horn of Plenty).
