TOPIC: Rumor Tokens and 2008?

There were a few that referred to puzzles one way or the other, but none of them provided a eureka moment for us. If we solved something, it was from other clues. The rumors, even the true ones, didn't make things any easier or clearer. Irritatingly, it was the false ones that were often far more clear.

Exactly... and yet... we keep on trying.  The rumours have some sort of attractive quality that most of us just can't resist.

MINOR RUMOR:    There is treasure in the dungeon.<br />                        The person standing next to you might be bard/cleric/druid/wizard.<br />                        Levitation spells make things go up and down.<br /><br /><br />Helloooooo, Captain Obvious!      =)

I would have to say last years rumors helped a ton for our run.<br />The tip about look at things from a different perspective was key for us in the final room.  Even if we solved it totally the wrong way, we still solved it because of it.<br />The tip about birthstones  being important to mothers was also key to making sure our party paid attention to all the birthdates we saw.<br />Lastly the tip about grinding up a finger to cure someone turned to stone tipped us off that some monster would be afoot turning people to stone, and then when it happend how we could rescue the mage to unstone the other survivors.<br />I think they were all useful, in the right circumstances.  Some of course you would need to completely ignore (like who would put down their weapons when faced with a stone golem or you didnt do the combat run) .  Others were so obscure (like the mage liked to work in pewter) that when we got to the room, we rememberd the clue but still didnt figure it out.<br />But they were all relevant, I dont recall any red-herring clues this last year.  Now years before when there were the ? tokens it all depended on how you handed the token and what day it was to determine if you got a true or false rumor.<br />I am glad to hear they are still usable this year, as I felt the intel gathered was important to our groups success.<br />

I think "the mage likes to work in pewter" was to get you to pay attention to the cup in the wizard's room.<br />

The rumors are helpful...if you can remember to think about them in the heat of the adventure.  That is the hard part.

Too true.  On top of that, you need to remember the right clue for the right room.<br /><br />We had the mage likes to work in pewter one, but it didn't help us.  We only figured it out because one of our group had good eyes and noticed that the "decorative" lines around the big letters were broken up.  When he looked closer he say they were really tiny words.

Hmmm... I think I'm going to take a magnifying glass to this year's volunteer contract. You know, just in case.  =D<br />David

<br />I think the perspective clue worked for a couple rooms.  The floor Tile was probably the intended clue room. <br /><br /> But for the final room it was a hint to go OUTSIDE the room and look in, which is not what we did.  Instead we mis-identified a rune as Justice (it was really the run for Magic), and on that pillar was an eye, as luck would have it, if you looked in the direction of that eye, it  looked at window V (5) and thats how we solved the final room.  We wouldn't have looked from the eyes perspective had we not had the rumor earlier.<br /><br />Greyseer
