TOPIC: Poll on neck slot items

Re: Poll on neck slot items 16 years 1 month ago #13

In my opinion...no other token is as cool as the HoP...(yes it is greed based, but it adds a dimension to the game).

There has to be a top dog token...and the HoP (created by fans of the game) is well worth having that honor.

Why not bless it fully Jeff ?...? In the mean while just keep making other tempting neck slot items...and tune down the ingredient stuff and the treasure mix in the boxes...

Gary are you saying this with tongue-in-cheek or literally?

From my point-of-view Jeff is doing what he has to. A line has to be drawn with HoP or treasure boxes will have to be designed with 3 pulls per-person in mind, which causes an array of logistical and token/game balancing challenges.
I'm saying if it were me - I would find indirect ways of fixing this (that is IF there is really a problem).
I'm saying if it were me - I would find indirect ways of fixing this (that is IF there is really a problem).

The only ways I could see the desire to use HoP being held in check would be by either:

a) making pulling from the treasure boxes worthless to the token rich (nothing above a rare in a treasure box)
b) make a super powerful common neck slot item that you nearly couldn't survive the game with out (I.E. if there was a common amulet of health that doubled your health, and then all of the dungeon damage was scaled up with the expectation that everyone would have that boost)

Plan "a" would wreck a fun part of the game (well it would only wreck it for the token rich...)
Plan "b" would wreak all other neck slot items.

I don't see either solutions as desirable. I much prefer the current tactic of using the bully-pulpit to call for restraint.

Edit:
From my past reading I don't think Jeff was overly displeased with loaning to others in your group, I saw the focus of his comment on loans outside of the group (I.E. put the break on this before people start renting HoP)

oh come now - be more creative than that....

#117 on my list for example...

Have a buy-back program...offer a nice new PURP item only available if you exchange a HoP!

#350 on my list for example...

Instead of treasure boxes have the party actually find treasure tokens in the room. Maybe have only the BOSS baddy offer up a BOX!

#899 on my list for example...

Augment the rules of the token - you may choose to draw more than once per box...but take -6 HP in damage for each extra draw...

Well, while the HoP obviously has problems, I was more focused on the Medallion here. If the Medallion was put out in the hopes of lowering HoP use, it is going to fail, and bring the entire 4C idea down with it.

There are many people who don't have HoP. I think the Medallion will go over great with that crowd. I don't think it will be one or the other, different groups will use different mixes.

I'm trying not to say anything about the Medallion...

I think others have nailed this particular topic pretty well...

*wonders - is it too late for them to tell us the 4C is an April Fools joke?*

What about this idea to get rid of the Horn of Plenty?

I would be sad to see the Horn of Plenty go, but if it must, then announce that the Horn of Plenty has been banned, and either . . .

[Option 1] each Horn of Plenty is a spend $250, and get $250 token. So you spend $250, and get two pick your own purple offers for sending in a Horn of Plenty.

-OR-

[Option 2] each Horn of Plenty turned in may be redeemed to select a first choice ultra rare token, and a second choice ultra rare token from the current run (the second choice ultra rare will be substituted with a Medallion of Greyhawk while supplies last).

Anything else would make me very sad.

I like the Medallion, I think it make for a perfectly good (perhaps Great!) 4C. I don't understand all the hate that is being thrown at it.

... Also I'm not aware of any of the powers-that-be pitching for the HoP to be removed, replace, or nerf'ed. A request was made by Jeff to not be too slimy with HoP and that's all. (or at least that all I'm aware of..)

Oh I love it, and want one. However I would rather get loot =D

No one hates it, it's just that almost everyone likes something else better. That isn't how the 4C was supposed to work.
