Re: Favorite 2008 Tokens 16 years 1 month ago #13

yeah, i would definitely needed the mithral sword if i didnt have a nightshades short for my off hand.

i was about to say my fav was the broadsword of life stealing, but then i remembered the one token that i couldnt help but giggle with delight whenever i opened one...BOLT OF LIGHTNING. hehe. not that i will actually use it, but just imagine how awesome it will feel to throw bolts of lightning around the tavern.
::disclaimer:: dont actually throw your tokens in the tavern, someone could lose an eye :icon_cyclops:
+1 Mithral Long Sword

It is pretty amazing that it can be used in the Ranger's Off-Hand, on top of the neat "hits ghosts more often" ability.

I was thinking there would be lots of undead this year, so I got two of them.

Ya, but you have to be a monk, so that ruins it :).

Kind of a no brainer for me, but beyond the obvious Lute that allows me to cast and fight while I am singing, I am fond of the +1 Mithral sword and Amulet of Wonder.

Question on the hourglass of imprisonment--It places the monster in an extradimentional space for 3 rounds. Does that mean the party gets to hit it for three rounds without retaliation? Are they automatic hits or is the monster's AC reduced? It could be very handy against that red dragon, I mean boss monster at the end of the nightmare run. That might be my favorite purp at that point.

Widseth (strumming his lovely lute)

Based on the sequester spell, I'm pretty sure you can't do diddily to it. It just allows you to prep for 3 rounds. Heal, swap items, apply oils, etc. Not bad when you enter the final room and see a red dragon or something. Out with the fort save rings, in with the fire resistance.

Im sorry to hear you don't like playing Monks. It's one of the best classes IMO. Especially if you have a Bracer of Quivering Palm.

Monks can't be purped as high as the other classes and most of us are oozing purps. It's a great class for someone with no good equip though. High minimum, low maximum.

Well, of course the Lute. Finally, I can actually get in and mix it up a bit instead of just singing (not that I minded, since I suck at the slide, but maybe I can finally get better at it).

Additionally, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all the flavor for the cash this year. I don't know why, but it's neat to have stuff instead of just coins. In particular, I really liked the Blood Opal jewelry. It's pretty.

Widseth's Lute (I get to make my first ever TD combat slide this year!) and the Amulet of Wonder are my favorite. I hope to own both of them eventually.

+1 Tower Shield Because it can be used in True Arena also. Which you forgot to mention! C'mon now...

True Arena (was Re: Favorite 2008 Tokens) 16 years 1 month ago #24
+1 Tower Shield Because it can be used in True Arena also. Which you forgot to mention! C'mon now...

Slight digression:

Speaking of True Arena, I'm beginning to think that the KEEN SCIMITAR (yeah it was introduced last year) is probably the most useful, considering how easy it is to get an obscene AC (even more so now with all the new 2008 tokens).

Purpled out gladiators can use: Full Plate +1, Tower Shield +1, Bracers of Defense +2, and Dragonscale Helmet (5th token is a weapon) for an AC of 27. Down to 25 if you swap out the Bracers or Helm for either Gauntlets or Girdle, down to 23 if you want both Gauntlets and Girdle.

Even on a best day you get +1 attack (normal), +2 (from weapon), +1 (from Gauntlets), +1 (from Girdle), and +1 (if using a Mug) = +6. Which means when facing an AC-maximized foe, you still need a 20 to hit. But sacrificing the +4 AC of the Tower Shield +1 for a Mug is a pretty gutsy move, so I think +5 is the most realistic. I'd wager that AC 25 and +4 to hit may be most optimal.

A typical red tokeneer will probably have something like: Full Plate, Tower Shield, Ring of Protection +1, and a Helm of Clear Thought for AC of 23. Down to 22 if using Gauntlets. (Unlikely to have access to Girdle or Mug).

Maximizing attack is +1 attack (normal), +1 (From weapon), and +1 (from Gauntlets) for a total of +3.

So any Red Gladiator is going to always need 20's to have a chance at hitting Purple Gladiators. Purp Gladiators are going to be wailing against each other hoping for crits. And the minimum for Purps to hit Reds is somewhere in the neighborhood of 17-20.

Out of curiosity, what were the most useful tokens from last year's True Arena?

When you're going for a CRIT battle, the Keen Scimitar doubles your chances. Thus the recent influx of + AC items (Bracers, Dragonscale Helm, and Tower Shield) only make the Keen Scimitar that much more useful.

Thoughts? Disagreements?

Now back to your regularly scheduled program...
