TOPIC: Re: Value of a Golden Ticket

Re: Value of a Golden Ticket 16 years 4 months ago #1

Oh man you really dont even want to know. Its going for $36-$40 a gram on ebay. and a gram is smaller than my thumbnail.

1oz Krugerands can get around $700. Even the US mint coins go for more than what gold is actually worth, but they end up brining in a greater value down the road.

And double your costs for platinum.

....or was that a rhetorical question =D

I have a small question. Is there really golden tickets this year. I was looking and was confused. I was trying to figure out if this thread was just plaing on the chocolate factory golden ticket thing (for my 2 cents I liked the old version with Gene Wilder better). Thanks for the info.

16 grams to the Ounce, and gold's going for $794/oz...that's in USD.

Minted Gold (ie krugerands) are also priced on the rarity of their minting. They usually go for a higher price, since it's an investment...the value will nearly always go up over time.

as to the value of a Golden ticket? How many people went through TD this Year? divide that by 16, and you can get a feel for the Rareity. Nevermind the possibility that several are likely to turn up After the GT run (which is why I was a proponent of a late run, or a fall back prize). I'd say $200 may be Cheap. How many people would be willing to sell one anyway? You'd have to get 2 before the run to even consider it, unless you couldn't make the date/time for the scheduled run. I'd guess $200 would be the Minimum...and I wouldn't be suprised if it fetched $500...Provided one goes up for sale. It's a good place to start though.

You must appreciate the irony of us speculating on the Value of something that we all want, and will probably not sell if we aquire it. Particularly when it becomes a matter of how much 1 person thinks others will spend.

well, it was mentioned that they would be mixed in with the first run of tokens. i believe the first run usually sells out well before gencon, and it is the second run that is available just before and at gencon.
as for them being for sale or not, i imagine we will see some, for two reasons; there may be a big buyer who has the money but didnt open one, they will offer enough to make someone sell thier golden token. or someone will end up with one who cant make it to the golden token run (long distance travel just for the weekend=no wednesday run).

If I pulled a GT, I'd probably HAVE to sell it, because knowing Jeff, he's going to make me work during the run... (heh heh)

If a volunteer pulls a Golden Ticket -- an added benefit is that they get to skip having to work that night!
