TOPIC: Usefulness of reserve tokens.

Usefulness of reserve tokens. 16 years 7 months ago #1

Dave,
When you create your next batch of reserve tokens, you might want to "stock up" on the gold bars. This sized coin has been very useful for large trades. John and I have been trading one of the back and forth several times. The next time you open the Bank of Greyhawk for trades I will be looking for Gold bars.

It was funny doing a trade where I was asked the question, "do you have change for a 2,500 gp token?"

Since we have 200 GP gems and rings, there is enough currency at this level so I think we could do without the 250 GP token.

The 500 GP token could have some use, but I haven't done anything with one except buy something at the auction.

The really big tokens, 2.5K, 5K and higher are cool but they are unlikely to be used for anything except the auction.
We will need a few of these just for coolness but I expect the big demand will be for the gold bars.

Yeah. I started a recent trade where I needed to pay out about 1800 GP. I was asking if the person had change for a 5000 GP token. Doh!

It would have been better for me to have two 1000 GP tokens. Having the 5000 GP token was absolutely cool though!

JKW

I think you should still keep the 250gp reserve bar for those that don't have quite ALL that much gold and gems.
One 250gp or 500gp bar is nicer than a dozen or so smaller tokens (they're also easier and cheaper to send). And not everyone wants to trade their gems away...

Don't get rid of the 250 gp bar - it was the only one I could afford!
If you get in too much of a pickle, I can probably break a larger bar. PM me if needed, and I will check my stock.

And thank you for the feedback, I agree that the 1K seems to be the sweet spot, I did deal with quite a few 500GP electrum bars as well.

Ok, with 2 votes for keeping the 250s sounds like we have a couple of different markets. So maybe we keep everything to keep the collectors happy. But I think the 1,000s will be like the US $20.00, the main unit for transactions.

It was funny that you nearly ran out this year. Once again token madness is hard to estimate.

I liked the 6 pack of tokens...250 500 1000 and 2500, 5000 and 10000 - it was nicely balanced...

Yeah. I'd say, keep the 6-pack, but those who intend to do lots of trading should be sure to request many 1k bars so they can more easily facilitate their small to medium transactions.

Dave,
Were there many folks getting reserve tokens at GenCon or did most of the reserve action happen before hand?

I would say it was fairly close to 50/50. In the end I only had a few tokens left (before the auction) I think I had two 10K tokens and a few 250's. We had them made in multiples of the following 6X, 3X, 2X, 1X, 1X, 1X from lowest denomination to highest.
