Complex indeed.

I think a 5 HP increase is too powerful.

When you aren't wearing armor that 5 hitpoints is going to run out pretty fast.

How about an item that lets you keep collecting tokens when you are a ghost. That's what we really fear about dying - we lose our token opportunities!

That's an excellent idea. The 4c, despite my prior suggestion, should definitely be (in addition to powerful and permanent) something unique and useful to all classes.

I was also thinking of:

- miniature of experience: You act as though you are 1 level higher than you actually are.

- horseshoe of luck: +1 to hit, AC, and all saving throws; any insta-death power or attack that would reduce player below 1 hitpoint is averted using one of 4 charges, but even after these charges are expended, the horseshoe does not become inert and retains its bonuses

- Adventurine: This appears to be a common example of this type of stone. When carried throughout an adventure, and shown (though not handed over) at the end of the adventure, the owner received 1 bonus rare item or rare monetary token

The horseshoe of luck is a good idea without the charges (a savior stone with charges?) - as Turnip said, powerful and useful to all classes.
A good question is: How powerful do we expect a 4C to be?

- less powerful than the average UR?
- equally as powerful as the average UR?
- more powerful than the average UR?

Incidentally, what is the actual meaning of "4c" when this item could use 6 or even 9 ingredient tokens in its creation?

Personally, if it uses this many ingredients, spanning 2-3 years, I feel the single item forged from such a combination should be hands down the most powerful thing TD has ever produced.

I would rather have fun and useful, than powerful. We have enough power creep already. For me, a good question would be "will it change the outcome of the run". If no, but still fun and useful, that would be great by me.
How about "The girdle of Garagos" as a 4c.

This is an item bearing the name of the psychotic deity of battle, destruction, and plunder of the same name.

I've have to find the e-mails I sent out, but I did a LOT of research about Iuz and Greyhawk whilst I was trying to figure out Jeff's 2007 clues.
We could name the 4C combo after Iuz's mother (witch) or father (demon). I think he has a sister, too, but I'd have to go find all the links with the info. That seems cool and in-theme.

JKW

Said like a tokenholic.

The masses, however, probably prefer the experience itself to the tokens.

Ahh, but the masses aren't obsessively collecting ingredient tokens...

They talked about it a bit in the last Dragon, or Dungeon. Something to do with Iggwilv, her real name possibly being Tasha, and Baba Yaga.
d20 post again... in d20 a shirt or vest takes up a slot. So this slot is actually used in TD. There is only one slot that hasn't been used by TD - the eye slot. That takes eye lenses or goggles.

It doesn't match the ingredients, but glasses or goggles would be cool!

Safety Goggles: protection from OSHA fines (... and pointy sticks in the eye)
