I think there may have been a bit of hyperbole in George's comment.<br /><br />But yes, it would be quite expensive.

<br /><br />Well, my comment is based of innuendo, gossip, and rumor (thus it must be fact )... <br /><br />That said, our group was hearing all kinds of rumors at Gencon as to what the cost would be, and regardless of the what the actual number pans out to, it sounds like it's going to be in the 1000's... I wrote 5000 when I was kinda tired, now when I think about it, the number I heard most often was between 2000-3000, though I can only guess at how accurate that is.

<br /><br />Since Dave hasn't made up the Combos yet, there is likely not a kernal of truth in those rumors.<br /><br />Makes me think of "just a mom" who announced that rumor had it "True Dungeon" was going to be in GenCon Europe.<br /><br />

Oh come on George... this rumor has a least a kernal, or at least more than a totally made up "going to europe" statement. Seriously, though, I know he hasn't made it yet, but if you take the fact that it was what (going off the top of my head) about 600gp, and another 400gp worth of items to replace the tokens this year, if you double that from 3 to 6 you get 2000, so the rumor isn't far-fetched...

If even your numbers for this past year are off base, what is the liklihood that the prognostication will be right?<br /><br />I figure there are two ways to do this analysis. 1) number of ingredients 2) number of cauldrons .<br /><br />By the first method:<br /><br />Spider silk shirt: 1=300 gp<br />gem of blinding: 1=100 gp<br />dagger of throwing: 1=160<br /><br /><br />560 / 3 = 186.6 per ingredient<br /><br />186.6 x 6 ingredients = 1120 gp<br /><br /><br />By the second method:<br /><br />Spider silk shirt: 300 / 3 cauldrons<br />gem of blinding: 100 / 2 cauldrons<br />dagger of throwing: 160 / 1 cauldron<br /><br />560 / 6 cauldrons = 93.3 per cauldron<br /><br />93.3 * 4 cauldrons = 373.3 gp<br /><br /><br />The real stress and selling point for hocking ingredients is NOT the replacement cost. Instead it's the liklihood that if Dave gets to make 2 4C's that for one of them, NOTHING will be substitutable.

<br /><br />George,<br />      Your guess is reasonable however it is purely a guess.  For a rumor to be worth listening to (and worth spending money in reaction to) you need to assume the person telling the rumor has some "inside" information.  Since the inside information does not exist, the person telling the rumor is not even aware of his own ignorance.  These sort of rumors should be given the same respect as E-mail spams for stock tips.<br /><br />

I didn't mean to imply that it was anything more than rumor/conjecture... I however, reread what I wrote, and can see how that somebody could take it that way... especially when I said "we were told". I meant it purely as that's what we were hearing, that it was rumor, but sounded fairly likely to occur in a similar form. <br /><br />So to anybody that took what I said to imply that it had some formal authority behind it: I apologize... I didn't mean it like that. It is "information" based on hearing it from multiple people at Gencon (no TD decision token deciders), and conjecture based on what we've seen in the past. It wasn't an attempt to drive up bids, I was trying to inform a person who asked a question about what I thought was a likely scenario... if I was trying to inflate the bids, I would have talked about how Dave has said that he wants to make 2 four caldrons and that one of them would only be available via ingredients... no GP replacement allowed.
