TOPIC: Any interest in 2004 and 2005 tokens?

Any interest in 2004 and 2005 tokens? 16 years 7 months ago #1

Hi all,

I got into playing True Dungeon in 2004 and loved it. I loved it so much that I bought a slew of tokens in 2005. Alas, but I was not able to go back in 2006... which turned out to be the last GenCon So Cal. Since I figure I'm never going to go to GenCon Indy, that leaves me with a whole bunch of 2004 and 2005 tokens that I'm never going to use.

Since I've noticed that there's some trading going on, I figured I might sell my tokens. However, most of the trading is for the 2007 tokens. So, I was wondering if there was any interest in any of the earlier tokens?

I've got a True Dungeon binder with a Bag of Holding token. The binder has quite a few things including a +1 Longsword, Bracers of Defense +1, +2 Cloak, Cloak of Elvenkind, Elixir of Life, Masterwork Bard Instrument, Masterwork Thieves' Tools, and a whole slew of others. What do you think? Worth putting some of it on eBay?

Thanks,
Sir Grail

I bet you could get a bunch of offers here without even going through the hassle of ebay.

Kim

Definitely go through ebay. People tend to be stupider there and some are putting up outrageous sums.

What would you be asking for those bracers +1? I'm very interested in putting my hands on them.

Well, that's where I get a little confused frankly. I've seen the Price Guide for tokens but there doesn't seem to be any difference in worth between the 2007 tokens or the earlier versions, even though you can't get the earlier versions anymore. And then there's the differences in rarities of certain tokens between years. For example, the 2005 Elixir of Life is Rare while the 2007 version is Ultra Rare. Is the Price Guide the given standard no matter what?

Sir Grail

Well, admittedly the price guide is a bit askew. Rares seem to be going for about the price guide, but often somewhat more for this years tokens. Now, previous years tokens that were also produced in 2007 would probably be less valuable, since most folks prefer the chips from what I've noticed. On the other hand, the bracers were not produced this year, so that probably does spike their value...

Let me look at the price guide, and I'll PM you.

The (current) Price Guide isn't tracking the old wood chips anymore, just the newer ones.

Over all, where there are multiple versions of an item (such as the wood Masterwork Thieves Tools, and the chip Masterwork Thieves Tools) most people seem to prefer the chip version, and don't bother trading for the wood.

There are a few collectors who'll give you a very good price for the older wood chips (2003 and 2004 particularly) if they're looking for them as part of their collection, but most people don't bother. Unless, like the Bracers of Defense +1, there's no chip version - in that case, you'll get a lot of interest in the item.

You could take this thread as a poll of how to divide up your collection and put it on ebay in separate parts. There seems to be interest in the +1 bracers and elixir of life. Maybe list those two individually and then the binder with the rest of the tokens in another auction.

Just a suggestion.

The Price Guide is just a guide and as Raven mentioned, I am no longer tracking the older versions of the tokens. Its just too cumbersome and there aren't the volume of trades in the older tokens that I need to establish a somewhat sensible median.

Having said that, like Raven also mentioned there generally isn't that much of a difference between the value of the wood and chip versions of a given tokens. If anything, trades and offers seem to indicate a slight bias towards the Chip versions of particular tokens. The exception being 2003 and 2004.

PM me if you have any other specific questions about the Price Guide.

-Douglas

P.S. A new (post-GenCon) version of the Price Guide will be coming out by the end of the Month. =)

yeah, plenty of people here have lots of interest in them, yours truly included. I am mostly in the market for your +1 weapons so let me know if you want to get something for them here.
