TOPIC: Predictions- Which Items Will Not Return in 2008

The title says it all. What items that appeared in 2007 do you think will be relegated to the dustbin by 2008?

Didn't we do this one already? Or was that mostly which ones we _hoped_ wouldn't return?<br /><br />Overall, I'm just hoping changes aren't too extensive. It's an issue of ambivalence for me really. I'd like to see some changes in the 'core' items. URs that have been around since the beginning like the LS +2 or girdle. I'd like to see them take a vacation and bring out some new core items like a shortsword +2 or something like that. On the otherhand, too many changes is just going to cheese people off, me included. If over half of the URs swap there's always the chance of power creep and the feeling that you're getting left behind. <br /><br />It's going to be a thin line to walk really. Glad I'm not the one that has to chart the course.

Well, my thinking is more along the lines of rares (but commons, uncommons, and UR too). Kewl beenz.  =D

It'd be nice if the scroll of keen edge took a dirt nap. Slow poison too, come to think of it. Both have been around since dinosaurs roamed the earth. It'd also be nice to see the cloak and boots of elvenkind take a breather too. Neither are all that useful, the boots ecspecially since it only has an effect with 1 class. There are probably enough boots floating around through the years to outfit a rogue army.

<br /><br />I'd like to see the Boots stay, but I agree that there's probably enoug floating around that it would encourage trade to remove them.<br /><br />I think certain class-specific items ought to stay, though, like the MW Thieves tools, MW Bard's Instrument, MW Holy Symbol - those are things which even a newbie has a good chance of picking up, and it can make the game more fun fo them to have that special item.

<br /><br />Agreed here. I think the MW stuff is good for newbie types. I think taking out some stuff would be fine for addressing other class type items. After all as earlier expressed they could be taken out of rotation and then put back in as others got phased out. I think that slow poison isnt as useful as it once was, and water breathing has no current use.

Just wait until Iuz calls up a torrential storm to downpour upon the Greyhawkians.  The darkened air elementals will let forth such an onslaught of liquid that you'll need waterbreathing or you'll drown (okay, in TD terms, you suffer 2 HP per round).<br /><br />JKW

I'm hoping to see some water effects in the new dungeon.  We've had fire, now how about an underground river or lake? That would bring in some waterbreathing!<br />
