TOPIC: Ebay Ring of Regeneration

Ebay Ring of Regeneration 16 years 7 months ago #1

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the buy it now price was before bids were placed? It will be interesting to see if the bidding goes higher than that. It might go quite high if people don't realize the Ring of Regeneration has a 2007 printing also for volunteers (which has been said on the forums on other threads).

I think the RoR on eBay now is a woodie.

Ring sold for $178.25. Not too high of a price if you consider it's rarity. Maybe too high for it's functionality.

Larry

Agreed, functionality does not even get it in play in my game...there are way more powerful rings!

Rarity - well that goes without saying...

This post was started around 09:10 EST. Finished it much later as I was at work. Noting this in case anyone posted anything similar between when I started this and when I posted it.

How rare is the 2004 version? At one time, I thought there were only 10-12 in existance. I saw at least three on players this year.
What number were handed out?

As for price for functionality??? Let's, for a moment, set aside any thoughts about rarity.
A Potion of Death's Door brings a dead character back to life with 1 HP.
An Elixer of Life brings a dead character back to life with Full HP.
A Savior Stone *avoids* the death (but character is not healed to full or taken down to 1 HP).

IMO, anything that saves your character from death and allows you to continue to experience TD (hopefully through the last room), is, basically, worth the ticket price of the event.

Of the three, a PoDD is least valuable as it restores you only to 1 HP. Your character could easily be killed in the next round, even before you can chug a 5pt healing potion or be healed by a team member.

An Elixer of Life's value is based upon the character class. To someone with 22 HP Max, this potion provides more healing than to a person with 12 HP Max. However, this potion is definately more valuable than a PoDD by a large factor.

Savior Stone. For incidental deaths, the value of this item falls somewhere between the PoDD and the Elixer of Life. It avoids the death all together, so you are not at 1HP or Max HP after using this item (unless that's the HP you had just before you died).
It's value is much greater, however, if used for its unique abilities to Avoid Any Death, including deaths from which a character could not otherwise return from (such as being sucked into a gem in the final room of 2006 or being sucked into a void in the final room of 2007).

Where does that leave us with a Ring of Regeneration? (based upon function only)
The Guide appears to be a litlte mixed up in its explanation, but it appears that the Ring heals 1 HP for the wearer only, once per room, during the first round the wearer is in the room.
If so, this ring is really only good in Rooms 2-7 (as you shouldn't have taken any damage before you enter the dungeon, so you'd receive no healing from the ring in the 1st room of the dungeon).

This means that the ring heals a Maximum of 6 HP of damage (and only if the wearer remembers to tell the DM when the player first enters the room).
I'd put the functional value of this ring no higher than (just over) a 5pt healing potion.

JKW

Don't forget the value of the slot in your equation - by wearing the RoR - you lose one Ring slot...where you can carry 1000 potions if you so choose. The RoR is actually below a 5pt Heal in my book.

The value of the RoR is by far, more for how few were given out, not the fact of its usefulness (or supposed lack thereof) in the game.

It means more to me because it was a gift from Jeff, than for what it can do for me in the dungeon.

here here - that is the true value of the RoR...and why I was willing to pick up if it sold for under $200!!!

I'm with John. I think you can count on 5-6HPs of healing per adventure with the RoR, assuming you loan it to the "hurt" party member each room. Compare it to say a Ring of Protection that gives 5% chance to block an attack per swing that will *breaks out the calculator* protect you from 1-2HPs of damage per adventure. The problem with other rings is that they require you to be targeted, which there is only a 1 in 7 change of happening per event. The RoR is always "on" for a hurt player.

Healing is always good. I wouldn't start out with the RoR but once someone got hurt, I'd break it out to start the free healing fountain.

oh yes - it makes a good swap on ring...if you play a swap on game.

But is it something you wear all game long - nope - I'll keep my two +4 save throw rings on for now.
