At my website, we often get e-mails with all sorts of variation of the Nigerian Princess story.  <br /><br />Another problem for small business is people who make large orders to be shipped outside the US.   They will pay by credit card but then refuse the charge after the order ships.  There is no way to stop a shipment once UPS has the items.  

I've never had a problem selling abroad, though I make sure that everything clears before I do so. It's a clear sign that something's probably fubar if some buyer constantly messages you urging you to ship in a hurry.

True - the latest version of that (I'm assuming) is the series of emails I've gotten saying I've been selected as an Ebay powerseller, and it gives links to click on in the email.  However, there is no mention of it on my "My Ebay" page.  I've been a powerseller in the past, and while I got an email from Ebay, I also had a message on my Ebay "My Messages" page, and in the recent cases there are no messages of the sort on My Ebay.  

<br /><br />I've received several variations of this scam.  When I contacted ebay, they told me that basically these scammers are trying to get you to resubmit your ebay profile to them, which could contain credit card info etc. (basically identity theft).  You can forward any email like this to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Ebay then tries to backtrack and stop the scam (probably almost impossible).  But after forwarding these emails to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. several times, my "powerseller" and "lost information" scam emails have gone down considerably.  Maybe they are able to put a crunch on these guys (at least for a while).<br /><br />BTW I did receive a legit ebay offer because the high bidder backed out and I was the second high bidder, but it came through ebay channels.  I now have my leather breastplate from Kiev as a result.  Many of you have seen me wearing it at GenCon.<br /><br /><br />Widseth

<br /><br />Normal orders at my website run from $30-$600.  So when I get an order for $6,000 and the person is ordering many of items that most people only order one of I tend to get suspicious.

<br /><br />That's not 100% accurate; I've done it.  Perhaps it wasn't supposed to happen, but never say never as I've stopped a UPS shipment from being delivered to its destination - it was even on the truck for delivery.<br /><br />JKW<br /><br /><br />P.S.  More power to you, Gary.  Good job.  I just wish such things didn't happen in the first place.<br /><br /><br />This thread has helped raise my awareness of potential scams.  Thank you.

Funny part was we sent him a check - then cancelled it - depending on his bank, he got zapped with a charge for the bad check.<br /><br />Then what does he do - he files a fraud form with the USPS...hehehe - funny thing there was we provided our statements AND the eBay judgement and information - supposedly the USPS then went after him...<br /><br />Yes it is too bad things like this happen.

Well the cancelled check was really an accident...the folks went ahead and returned his money, but I told them he was a scammer and they should not pay up.  They cancelled the check the next day after I convinced them he was a bad man...<br /><br />so I guess he got some trouble for his attempted scam.

i received the same email about those purps. i went as looked at forsakens emails and it didnt match. something is definatly up.

<br /><br />At UPS we have a newer feature called shipper intercept which allows people to call in and data messages are sent to the end line delivery center and automatically cut to a package clerk and when scanned it prints a return label to be put on.  Costs a few bucks to have done but worth it to get your merchandise back.

<br /><br />Glad to hear that.  We could have used that last week.  UPS lost a box.  We had a FRANTIC customer demand that we reship that instant.  So we reshipped.  UPS found the missing box and delivered it 2 days late.  Now customer has both orders and we have to send a call tag.  Pain in bleep.
