??Possible Counterfit Tokens?? 16 years 7 months ago #1

Ebay recently had a purp +2 holy sword and a purp mithril chain shirt up for auction from the same seller. I put in a low bit just for the heck of it. They sold for over $100 each. Now I am getting a private message from the supposed seller for his own 2nd chance to buy from him directly and not thru ebay. (red warning light going off in my mind) There were 4 or 5 bids all well above mine and so I am wondering what are the chances of someone have 5 or 6 mutilples of the same very desirable purps and selling them off like this? I haven't seen them so they may well be legitimate tokens, but if the seller is violating ebay's policies on 2nd chance offers, what is the likelyhood that the tokens might not be genuine? Here is the email on the sword, and the one for the shirt was exactly the same message and offer:

Hello Dear Buyer ,

I am sorry if i disturbing you, but i want let you know that i am the seller of the item title True Dungeon Token +2 Holy Great Sword Purple!!! ,if you are still interested to buy it please make your best offer once you receive this email and please be resonable and we can have a deal. Contact me as soon as possible for more details about closing the transaction at this email: This email address is being protected from spambots. I wonder who he's got making his counterfeit tokens. I've got a factory full of guatamalan children working 18 hour days right now preparing for 2008. If daddy can't buy a porsche with the profits in the first few months, I'm cutting their gruel rations in half.

Um I'd say scam more like it.

I believe the Mithral Chain and +2 Sword were put up by Forsaken here on the forums, Todd. I have one of his email addy's and that is not it. Nor is that his name in the email addy.
My guess would be that someone else is more likely trying to scam you.

You may want to report this incident to ebay, if that is possible.
Besides, it's incredibly easy to detect ebay fraud. Just look at the message. THere are safeguards all over.

It's already been reported. I just hope no one falls for the counterfit/scam since it isn't Forsaken's posting.

If the email came to your inbox(mail program, not ebay message center) I'd check the headers on that. And make sure that information gets passed along to ebay.

Another warning flag is that they give you an email address to contact instead of just allowing you to reply to the message(if it is ebay message center).

Its just all sorts of fishy and am glad that you did not fall for it & reported it.
If the other bidders are on this forum, and get the same message they'll know to be on guard. Thank you for sharing your experience Glendavar.

My advice, never accept 2nd chance offers. There's usually something slimy involved and your odds of actually receiving the item (even if not counterfeit), IMO, probably hangs around under 50%.

What int he world are you basing that on? 40% of the things I sell end up being for second chance offers. Seeing as the point of this incident is that it isn't a real second chance offer...it seems sorta odd that you'd run in quoting statistics. Just a guess or something you've actually seen backed up?

Whoa there tiger, I picked that percentage arbitrarily.

When I quote statistics seriously, rarely will you find things to be as neat or general as "less than 50%." I'll say something like 42.5%. I may even be a real prick and tag on the "with a variance of plus or minus 3%."

C'mon, we all know 63.5% of all statistics are simply made up.
As DD said the sword and shirt are mine and they were sold to other bidders. No I did not send you that request!! I have'nt got anymore of them! As for the fraud this is the best way to detect one send a request back to the person selling them through the item inside EBAY. Then await the answer! I never make a second chance offer on tokens! So If you have any questions let me know!
