Yea, I saw that...the 5 feedback is making me wary.

Not that I'll probably get my hands on anything anyway. Has anyone noticed that everything seems to be selling consistently for more than the guide values them at? ...and that's before shipping!

I think the guide needs updating.
Insolent fool, why are you not yet kneeling?!?!

The guide is old. Stay tuned.

But keep in mind though that sometimes eBay sales don't accurately reflect true value of a given token. Case in point: Some one is paying $3 for a Common: Tinderbox on eBay. Is Tinderbox worth $3? I think everyone would agree its worth significantly less than that but there are situations where supply is limited and desparation or a need for timeliness causes people to pay more for something than its worth.

By the way, if anyone needs a Tinderbox, I'll give you one for free at Indy '08. I have about 50.

I suspect there are some new True Dungeon players bidding on items that don't know what the values of tokens are yet. That's just a guess, but otherwise I'm not sure how to explain the extra-high bids on a number of items, including relatively worthless commons and uncommons.

Ebay is one of the few reasons stupid people should be allowed to have money. It's just too bad I can't be bothered to cash in on this wave of idiocy.

The problem with Ebay is that you only sell one item at a time usually, so it is bad for setting prices if the item is unusual, like for ultra-rares. You don't get a good distribution, and all it takes is two people to drive the price through the roof. These prices should be considered as outliers.

I don't think the Ebay sales should be considered outliers, unless they are obviously out of whack like a $3 Tinderbox. Ebay sales are the best guides we have to the actual $ value of tokens, since most forum deals are trades instead of sales.

Ebay is great for reds and below (multiple auctions), but all I am saying is the purps are so rare they should be considered separately. All you have proved with a purp auction is what the highest price of all people that saw the auction is willing to pay. It is nowhere near the mean or median price that everyone would pay.

I thought the principle of the Price Guide was - "the value is an average of what people are willing to pay for an item..."

If we start ignoring VALID eBay payments...then I think there is a problem with that.

Two people in a bid war is fine - that says to me that at least two people are really looking for that item and the chance for it to go for a similar price is at least somewhat probable - especially if an audience is watching the prices and taking note that some items will just not be had for under a certain amount.

True, if that is what the Guide is using as a standard. However, if those two people bidding up an item actually get the item later, then the price would drop quite a bit. I am not sure that setting the standard to what one or two people's idea of what a purp is worth is a good idea.

Although maybe I should sell my Cloak of Displacement before I say that ;-)

Most price guides are averages of actual sales, so the ebay sales are very good estimates of value for those tokens. True, it's possible that a follow-up auction might bring less money, but it's also possible that two people that are willing to pay even more for the token might bid it even higher. One example of how the Ebay prices are fairly accurate is the +2 Holy Great Sword that sold on Ebay, and then I believe two sold on the forums following the auction for very close to that same price.

I disagree - just because two desperate people paid and got the particular item - does not decrease the value of the item from a historical standpoint.

I would let the general averaging bring the value of the item down - but I would not throw out the fact that two people got into a bidding war over an item. If anything this trend should be watched to be sure more groups are not doing likewise.

Case in point the +2 Holy Sword...there have now been a couple on eBay...if we could tell who was bidding each time we might see NEW BLOOD in the fight for one...

If it were me - I would not care about the number of desperate (aka crazy) bids - I would just factor them in with everything else. BUT what I do think the guide could improve upon is possibly printing a recent HIGH PRICE SEEN price - or even put in a range of values on the items based on sort of a high-low scale.
