TOPIC: 2008 Tokens Already Out?

2008 Tokens Already Out? 16 years 7 months ago #1

Hi all, just wanting to confirm a rumored sighting of a 2008 token held by a player who went on a Combat run with us. <br /><br />Is it true that 2008 tokens were available at Gen Con? If so, why no mention of it there or on the boards?

<br /><br />Yep, they're avaliable and I already have a full and complete proof set. 1<br /><br />1: Warning. Statement may contain 0% truth by volume. Poster asserts the right to respond to any surprised amazement with the phrase 'I did it for the lolz.'.

<br /><br />I don't believe the 2008 token set has even been designed yet, much less been produced and distributed.  <br /><br />Out of curiosity, what was this 2008 token that the player had?  If he was on your combat run - didn't you actually sight it instead of just a rumored sighting?

Perhaps the person was talking about +2 Bracers of defence.  Some people have gotten them. <br /><br />This token has not been in any of the previous print runs so someone may have assumed it was early release of a 2008 purple.  <br />

As I mentioned in my initial post, one of my group mentioned it after we had arrived back in NYC, so no chance of confirming rumor.<br /><br />I'll check with him to see if he recalls what token it was. I'm figuring it was the Bracers +2, but I'll double-check.<br /><br />Thanks to all for the feedback!

just a question  for anyone who cares to chime in. we know there will be new tokens in 2008, but should the back design change? it might be cool to have the token runs stay the same for the entire story line duration.<br />the tokens can be changed in and out of print, but maybe not the back design. we would still have to purchase mass amounts to complete sets.

As long as the printed stickers on the front differed enough to tell the difference of what year they were printed, I'd think the back design should stay the same.  And I seem to recall Dave or Jeff saying that it would be prohibitively expensive to change the back design every year.

Changing the sticker makes the most sense as these are going to change anyway with the new token mix.  I don't see any marking though that could be used to indicate the year.... interesting.  Maybe the triangles on the sides?

I like the idea of being able to look at a bunch of chip tokens upside-down without having a clue what year they are.<br />The front should be the part which changes.<br /><br />BTW, Doug - yes, the "thorns" on the side are for 2007. There may be new marks for 2008.<br />

I think TD saves money not changing the moulde (sp?)  The back should stay the same and the face should get some new symbol or something...

I agree with keeping the backs the same, but I wonder what the cost of changing the weight in some items would be. like 25 gp is going to wieght more than 5, or a sling would have little to no weight, yet a sword would.
