Everybody be careful and check the shipping prices on some of the tokens for sale now (not Foresakens auctions). The same Lady that was claiming that True Dungeon was coming to Europe now has some auctions (including auctions for a common token) with shipping costs - shipping Parcel Post mind you - of $16.42 per auction.

I don't at all mind people that capture some of the costs of doing business (handling, ebay, paypal, what have you) in the shipping/handling costs as long as they say so ahead of time. But, this seems clearly to try to trick someone into buying an item and then making the profit on the shipping costs.

Not saying that anyone's shipping costs are high or low but people should keep in mind that there are more costs associated with auctions than just shipping. There is delivery confirmation, the envelope itself, packing material, eBay fees, PayPal fees, and gas costs driving to the post office not to mention time spent setting up the auction, packing the item, and standing in line to mail it.

$16.42 does seem a tad high but I am guessing after everything is said and done, it costs her close to $10 not including time spent on everything.

I certainly agree that there is no problem with including handling / packaging costs (including Ebay/Paypal Fees) in the shipping cost as long as you say so ahead of time, I do it for my auctions. That said, I would be amazed if she spent anywhere near $10 all told to ship that token even when accounting for Ebay/Paypal fees, the envelope, etc., especially since she is shipping it parcel post.

Handling costs are always vague though and if a person happend to live far from a post office and had to spend $5 in gas to mail you package or added a couple of bucks for their time, I personally wouldn't have any problem with this so long as its clear in the description. This is afterall what just about every infomercial does with its handling charge. They add in extra costs like how much they have to pay people to process the order.
I can tell you exactly what it cost's!!! If you havn't figured it out by now I sell on Ebay heh So to list an Item is 20 cents plus any extra's you want to add (gallery, pictures ect...)
When the item is sold you have the final fees based on what the item sales for, They are never very much in my opinion!! paypal has a little expense but again not too bad! I sold an item for 132 dollars Ebay charged me $1.00 paypal like $1.25 Box (usps gives them to you FREE) Tape 100 yards $1.00 so probably like 1 cent so my total expense was ink from computer printer for shipping label 30 cents(maybe?) piece of paper I printed the label on 1 cent (if that) confirmation FREE due to the fact I printed and paid shipping from home time it took to take to post office NONE they pick it up!

So total cost is 2.57 cents (Maybe?)
I don't charge handling for that simple reason too many people take advantage saying that is the cheap as they can send it. USPS offers a flat rate priority mail box for 8.95 to anywhere in the US up to 70 pounds! I can't think of anything that I obught that weighed that much?
Just some details into Ebay shipping!

I've been selling Gencon miniatures, also very light weight, and all fees taken into account it usually costs me between $3-$4 to mail a few of them in one package.

How many tokens is she sending? It would have to be a real pile of them to get anywhere close to $16, and remember through USPS you can ship a flat rate box regardless of weight for $8.95 from one cost to the other. Add the paypal and ebay fees and you're still not up to $16.

I have sold and bought plenty on ebay, and some people are just out to scam you with "handling" fees. Additionally, Ebay and Paypal are services that provide for easy transactions. In my opinion, it is up to the seller, NOT the buyer to pay fees associated with those services. I usually charge less than $1 more then actual material/shipping costs for items I sell...sometimes much less than that.

Having said all this, sometimes kicking up the shipping is just a way to keep the listing fees down. You start the bidding at 1 cent but have the shipping equal the amount you would accept for the item.

Of course, right now ebay is having a no listing fee special.

In the end, I think its all a wash. Higher Shipping/Handling means that the items sells for less or doesn't sell at all. The other way is true to. Sometimes, I don't charge for shipping at all knowing that people will bid more because of that.

It all works out in the end.

Priority mail for under 13 oz (so you can put it in a mailbox) is about $4.65 and the post office gives you free boxes.

I just shipped a box of 250 tokens to Jammies via UPS for $6.50, with conformation and free insurance.

So anyone charging over $7.00 for shipping (small quantities) tokens is just padding their profit.
