TOPIC: Horn of Plenty question

Horn of Plenty question 16 years 9 months ago #1

I think it was stated earlier that someone would have to wear the Horn of Plenty through the entire dungeon to be able to use it. I'm sure that is so that someone can't use another Amulet through the room and then put on the Horn of Plenty right before the treasure box picks.

My question is - if someone who is wearing a Horn of Plenty dies on the adventure, can someone else wear it through the rest of the dungeon? I guess the question is valid for other tokens also that need to be worn throughout the adventure, like the Ring of Regeneration.

I am not a rules god, but it is my understanding that a corpse can give whatever tokens he likes to other party members. DM's will be getting word on how to treat amulets, rings, and other such items.
I do remember something in the rules about needing to show it to the player coach and keep it on for the remainder of the dungeon. Dont think someone else would be able to take the use of it since they didnt have it at the beginning.

I think Joe's right. The process is you must declare that you are using the HoP to the Player Coach and at that point, there is a box on the player card that is marked. You are not allowed to switch to the HoP in the middle of the dungeon. It is the only exception I think though. You can switch any other amulet during the dungeon.

Just the HoP - no rings.

Does that mean that it isn't necessary to display the Horn of Plenty during the adventure, since you identify it to the DM at the start of the dungeon and it is marked on the player card?

That has been my take on it from the get go.

Since we have up to three rings wearable plus you need to show the Hand of Glory to prove 3 rings are worn legally - that is a MAX of 4 tokens that must go in a badge holder...that is the extreme case, but possible. The usual will be a person with two rings in a badge holder - and that is reasonable and pretty safe for the tokens...

I'm no rule god either - but I think since we track HoP on the party card, we don't need to show them in a badge holder...it saves room for rings and things.

G

Can we get an official ruling on what tokens need to be shown in the badge holder? It would be great if I don't need to show the Horn of Plenty, and it doesn't seem necessary if it is tracked on the party card.

As a reminder - here is what Dave had to say....

We are asking players to display the rings they choose to wear, they can still change, but if they walk into a room wearing the wrong rings, there could be a case where a trap is set off and the rings the player is wearing may not help...

Now I think it is safe to assume that since there are only four amulets...and three of them are tracked...(HoP is on the party card, a HoG is in a badge holder, and AoA is in the AC at start...maybe we don't need every amulet in the badge holder.

Is there a chance people could take the +1 AC and throw a HoG and an extra ring in the badge holder...sure, could they also take the +1 AC even with the AoA in a badge holder - then swap it out for AoT...sure...

But if we don't make a big deal out of it, it should not be an issue - just add it to the pile of things already on the honor system pile.

Of course maybe the neatest/simplest thing to do next year is track the specific Amulet on the Party Card...the AoT might be something a DM will want total proof it was put into play.

Seems like the Horn of Plenty should be like anything else. If a player dies in room 4, another member of their party should be able to wear it and gain the benefits from it. Otherwise it's like saying that the magic involved in such an item died with the original owner of the item.

Kim
