It is wrong to tip the vessel of knowledge. Let us meditate on this.

I know at least 2 people should get that. =D

It depends on the token, some may be re-used as treasure, others will probably be destroyed, somehow (obviously not burning anymore).

That issue falls under the "we'll cross that bridge when we get there" category.

It's too bad that the chippie tokens are not in different colors for each rarity because all those unwanted return chippies can become true poker chips at that point :D

Thanks all for replying to my question regarding consumable tokens.

To clarify my initial post, in regards to "one-shot" items such as Potions and Scrolls, the idea being tossed around was that the token be marked in some way and then returned to the player for collecting uses only. (Shame on those who would consider trying to use them again!)

Unfortunately, I don't see a practical way to do this [without using power tools and the resulting image of dueling DMs...]

Poker chips? Hmm, hadn't thought to use them that way. So far, I've considered chuking them at disruptive players as a "gentle reminder". With a little practice, you can get a good arc and the token's weight leaves a "lasting impression".

I'm not certain there is a good way, or good reason, to mark off the one-shot items to return them to the players.

If, however, a company wanted to do such a thing, they could use a black-light marker and mark the tokens such that the marking wouldn't show up in normal room lighting. Such tokens could then be checked in the dungeon with either a hand-held black-light, or perhaps a black light mounted near the head of a combat board or something like that.

JKW

The rule has been passed - the DM Guides and Training has been updated...

Consumed items are to be KEPT by TD DMs. (this includes when a Wand or item has used the last BOX on the token.)

Like it or lump it - that is the rule and hopefully it is one easily and consistently enforced.

Personally I like that tokens are taken from the player when they are used. I think its a good trade off of risk vs. reward. Tokens are not grossly expensive and as it has been shown that they are not necessary to complete an adventure. If you wish to use something that will greatly increase your ability then there has to be a penalty for such act.
