TOPIC: Ebay 1000 GP Sapphire Necklace

Re: Ebay 1000 GP Sapphire Necklace 16 years 10 months ago #13

Wow!! It ended up selling for $71.07 with 7 bids. Not bad for a piece of jewelry. I have bought my wife cheaper real jewelry. What would a more useful permanent purple go for? $100.00?

Larry

i was suprised it went for so much, and i was even the first one to bid on it. actually, after a few were shocked that someone bid $50 on it, i was really hoping that would hold out. for the high bids, i think a big part of it may be that some of us dont have any URs for trade, but would still like to acquire new ones, and to do so we would be trading well over the dollar value of that UR in rares, so it is more cost efficient to purchase an UR for cash and trade it (plus, i wouldnt mind having a sapphire necklace if it didnt trade). the price guide really seems to break down at the UR level, while the cash values placed on them seem to be fairly accurate (in my opinion they are close...perhaps should be little more than what they are listed, but not too much), the GP value of the URs are listed far below actual value in trade, they should probably be twice what they are listed in GP (which breaks the whole matching-GP-to-cash thing)...that is, unless ive just managed to talk to the few people that value URs a bit too highly?
by the way, is it acceptable to post 'cash' as an item you have for trade when posting a trade list? :)

I concur that the price guide prices are good starting points for trading Commons/Uncommons/Rares among themselves, or trading Ultra-Rares among themselves, but it breaks down when trying to trade Rares for Ultra-Rares. The price difference should be much greater.
What would a more useful permanent purple go for? $100.00?

It might...if it is on my list of needs. =D

Way I see it, $71 is seven bags of tokens...could I have traded the 7 rares and 6-7 PLATs to get the thing...maybe or maybe not.

Isn't it cool how this TD game has grown and now we have such cool collectibles!

Great point! It really puts the $ cost vs. the Trade cost into perspective - and makes it clear why people will pay $150-$200 and up for key PURPs.

i dont know about spending THAT much cash. for trade, i can see someone wanting or giving that much, the money has already been spent, and if you dont need those tokens and still have plenty left after, you can make the trade. but many of us would deplete most of our rares with good trade value to do that, so we would rather just spend the money on the purp to save on the replacement of reds (at least that is how i look at it). and for cash, things should go for cheaper, partly because once you hit $125 for a single purp, you could just buy the '25pk', get a random UR (to keep or trade) and have 30pks to trade for another UR, while hopefully holding on to a little extra.

Although, unless you're lucky enough to get a top random PURP, you won't be able to trade a lesser PURP for the top PURP, and they probably won't take the 30 Rares either -few people will trade PURPs for Reds. If someone REALLY wants a particular PURP - a top one or out of print one - the only way they might be able to get it is to buy it.
