No, that is Marc, not Dave...but horse is not quite right either...

I'd like to think of Dave as the Token Guru Extraordinaire!

Here is one more from the original list of questions:

#9. Can someone refresh me on whether Gloves of Dexterity and Potion of Cat's Grace also improve your Initiative rolls? (Initiative rolls seems to happen occasionally but not always).
We are currently going back to an initiative roll for the party with no bonuses. If however, someone were making an initiative role for just themselves, their bonus would apply, and yes the gloves and potion would also apply to initiative.

I will post the rest tomorrow...

Dave,

Does this imply that a player with significant Initiative bonuses could just role for themselves to get the first attack (like a Rogue for example) and the rest of the party could roll a separate no-bonus initiative roll? Along the same lines, what if everyone in the group has an initiative bonus. Is there still no bonus to the group roll?

We want to keep combat fairly simple and fun. Adding in individual initiative bonsuses is too cumbersome. So, if you have a high Dex (whether from a natural Stat or magic) then the only bonuses you gain from that are improved AC, improved Reflex Save and improved "to hit" with missile weapons. And yes, if everyone in a group is wearing Gloves of Dexterity, it does not matter at all for initiative rolls.

The chance of someone rolling their own initiative is pretty slim. It might just be best to say it can only happen if it suggests it in the module text. I don't want a bunch of people worrying about trying to find a way to get that bonus.

OK, here are a few more considerations. We deliberated over several raised token issues and have come up with the following rulings:

Nightshade’s SS:
We will not make any changes to the description of Nightshade’s Short Sword in the guide. The sword, used in normal combat, does 4-8 HP damage and the symbol indicates 8HP damage. When used by a thief during a backstab attempt, if the attack is successful and the symbol comes up, the damage will be 28 HP, 56 if a critical hit. Also, note that not all monsters are susceptible to sneak attack. They must have some kind of anatomy to allow a sneak attack, or must not be impervious to a sneak attack. For example, a Green Slime cannot be sneak attacked.

Horn of Plenty:
We will not make any changes to the Horn of Plenty description. It only comes into play when you draw from a treasure generator chest after defeating a monster or successfully completing a puzzle challenge. Note that not every monster or puzzle may have a treasure generator associated with it. You do not get three draws from successfully defeating rogue’s traps. You must wear the HoP for the entire adventure to be able to gain this benefit. It will be recorded on the Party card for DM reference.

Weapon switching time penalties:
As a general rule now, there is no penalty for switching weapons. The exception to this rule is the Heavy Crossbow which may only be fired every other round and switching to and from this weapon will cause a round delay. This will be updated in future versions of the player's guide and token guide.

Can you edit the Horn of Plenty description to reflect what you just said - i.e. that it can be used for three draws when you draw from a treasure generator chest after defeating a monster or successfully completing a puzzle challenge. Currently the description doesn't mention the puzzle challenge draw, just defeating the monster. I appreciate that it applies to both the puzzles and monsters, so that it is applicable to either of the dungeons.

Thanks!
Mike

Yep, I am going through and editing version 6.1 of the guide as Jeff and I have the discussions.

Dave
Again, thanks for the clarifications, Dave.

Sorry your sword is not all you hoped for. I bet a good slider like yourself will still be deadly with that sucker. I'd wager you'll even crit with it a few times at Indy. This weapon was really designed to give those players with awesome aim and steady nerves a chance to rock.

Are you crazy?* The sword is fabulous! Way more than I could hope for.

I expect to. (insert egotistical grin here)
Just feeling kinda sorry for those poor Rogues who might not live up to GuildMaster Nightshade's high standards, that's all.

Thanks again for the Nightshade Sword, Jeff. It's an honor to have such a fabulous weapon named for the Guildmaster. I wouldn't be a proper Rogue, though, if I didn't try to get every penny of value out of it. (You know how Rogues can get.)

- Raven

* I don't need an answer to this question, btw. The evidence speaks for itself ;) . And we love ya for it.
OK, here are two that I am sure people are waiting for:

Gauntlets and who can use them:
Gauntlets and armored gloves are not usable by Wizards and Bards. Gloves are allowable, see token guide for specifics.

and....

wait for it....

Bracers and who can use them:
We have decided to allow Wizards and Bards to use bracers, the next version of the guide will reflect this.
