TOPIC: Is it time to take URs out of Treasure Boxes?

Possible suggestion:
Introduce Mythic Core in 2025 and instead of 2 specific UR in Legendary recipes, require 1 Mythic Core (made from any 5 URs).

I saw Chad's sheet as well. I know his wasn't even close to half when I saw it.

He also didn't "fire sale." He sold things for what he had paid for them, not trying to make a profit. Source was a direct conversation.

I think we have multiple things impacting current pricing, and treasure mix probably is about 4th on that list.

1. Not enough new players to drive demand, which probably includes a lot of loaning of tokens in VTD.

2. More 8K purchases by the same small groups, as people are preparing to build things like safeholds. This includes other new rewards like marks, path fragments, etc.

3. Newer conventions often having 4 room dungeons where you can't use outside tokens (return to origins, San Japan I believe)

4. More treasure and the UR+ they bring.

5. Recent large sales of old collections at the price they were purchased for.

Maybe I have these out of order, and I'm sure there are some I didn't think of.

I think I would bucket them in the categories of increased supply and decreased demand.

For Increased Supply, I would list more UR+ out of treasure boxes, more URs from token sales, and tokens from liquidated collections.

For Decreased Demand, I would list more players moving past URs to Relic+ builds as my top reason. We've seen the same thing over the years happen to Uncommon and then Rare tokens. There was a time when I was able to sell uncommon tokens like +1 Cloaks of Protection on eBay for several dollars until most players moved past having uncommon tokens in their builds. Rares like Gauntlets of Ogre Power and Potion of Death's Door still sold for awhile after that in the $15-$20 range until players mostly moved past having Rares in their builds in favor or URs or higher. It seems like the same thing is happening to Ultra-Rares now, more of the players that spend a lot on tokens are moving to Relics and higher in their builds.

I think the decreasing value of URs might also drive even more increased demand, particularly for those that bought multiples to sell/trade later. There is very little incentive to buy multiples when it seems likely that the values will decrease instead of increase. That is the point Kirk was making. I know it is a big factor for me, I've bought very few tokens this year compared to previous years.

I'm hesitant to say fewer new players is a factor just because I don't think we have any data (admittedly TD probably has this data) on how many new players there are and how that compares to previously. I do agree of course that more new players willing to buy tokens including URs would help.

I like that suggestion. Or maybe one specific UR and a Mythic Core.

If the issue is getting new players interested in collecting, I am not sure making legendary items harder to craft is the answer. It feels like you can make less and less with the contents of an 8k these days.

I would lean more toward going back to one easier to craft legendary a year and maybe one Mythic recipe a year. I think trying to channel everyone into legendary crafting might be counterproductive.

One other problem is there are a vast number of widely usable URs. You can mostly buy one set of tokens that you can use with any class. Not only does this lead to lower demand (I don’t need to buy much different to play different classes, but builds end up very much the same.

That is definitely one to add to the list.
