TOPIC: Obsolete Ultra Rares

I was wondering if there was ever an official ruling that ultra-rare would not be able to be transmuted or traded in or anything. I am going through tokens to transmute a safe hold and a stalker bead, and just those are going to almost completely wipe me out of trade goods. Pretty frustrating, since rising prices make multiple runs less likely.

I've got a number of ultra-rares that I am not going to use, and I've tried selling or trading them to no avail. I would love it if ultra-cares could be transmuted into any trade good, or even into the related good (A circlet of elemental mastery could be transmuted into a philosophers stone, for example).

Generally no, with a few exceptions.

Old versions of Lenses of Divine Sight, Shadow Cloak, and Mad Evoker's Charm are no longer usable in the dungeon (as they have incorrect rules text).

In the past there have been recipes that took a large variety of URs (for example, +3 Rod if Niltongue took any UR weapon) - although that was quite a while ago (2014)!

I'd hold onto those jank URs at least until we see what the recipes for Omni-cube and Omni-sphere tokens are.

If you're contemplating transmuting a Circlet of Elemental Mastery into a $5 Philosopher's Stone - I'd suggest instead posting a big list here. Offhand I can't think of many URs I wouldn't pay at least $20 for - even if they are super bad (e.g. +1 Plate Armor) - just for collectability or to give away.

I just got bit by this exact issue. Looks like my lenses of divine sight 2014 were actually illegal to use now. Also those trade goods I had? Also invalid… for reasons? Is there an errata page that lists all of these past changes? Catching back up on 9 years being out is more tricky that I had thought.

I'm not aware of any list.

Mad Evoker's Charm and Cloak of Shadowskin have also had trade ins.

There was also a trade in for the relic charm of avarice.

I believe the first tooth of Cavadar had a trade in.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

There are a few rares as well I think - such as the old printing of Ring of Stunning Fist whose effect changed at some point.

Not URs, but Lore tokens are useless now, pretty much all tokens that granted a light source are useless. Rumor tokens are useless, although I hope that changes someday.

Just to clarify, even though the effect changed, the 2011 version of Ring of Stunning Fist is still very much usable in game. Quoting from the TDb:
Erratum: All previous versions of this ring now function as shown above. Prior to 2016, this ring had a re-slide effect, but changes to the class cards necessitated it be updated.

Oh bother. I’m coming back to TD after several years and it seems I missed some memos. What are my options to use the 1,000 GP bars and trade goods I traded heavily for? Are they just trash now?

If they are gold backed goods and bars, they are only collector items now.
