Good points all around. I can say personally that not having anything useful to do with MB has decreased my willingness to buy VTD tickets for more than a single run.

I'm not sure how popular an opinion this will be but why does it matter if MB costs tank?

Yes - the resale market goes down and some people make less/can earn less to reinvest into more tokens. I am perfectly ok with GF going for the same as Aragonite. This would actually help the people who only do in-person cons as their in-person tickets are more expensive than VTD.

I don't recommend anything that penalizes the portion of the community that isn't into doing VTD as much. I completely get it - some games don't feel the same. Personally, I like both in person and VTD but not everyone is of the same view.

I think the glut will start turning around in 2023-2026. That storyline transmute is so awesome that I'll bet tons (probably literally) of monster bits from those years will be saved for that transmute. Since I'm only doing in-person TD (and only GENCON at that), I'm sure I'll be in the market for more Golden Fleece for the Arcanum Shirt and eventually Ring transmutes. If GF drops to $20, I'll probably pick quite a few up.

For me the bigger problem is Steel and Hides. Almost everything, from Fleece to Silk, can be found in the treasure box. But I can’t come up with enough Steels and Hides to actually craft transmutes.

While that may be true for one or two Mike, most have far more MB than they can possibly use, particularly given the lack of 2021 treasure to make master Ale drinkers bead. Particularly those who played a LOT of VTD to help support TD when no one knew what was next.

GF will bottom out, then (hopefully) rebound when people start hoarding again.

That said, that'll happen whether 2022 MB are included or not.

Please, please reconsider using at least 2022 in the earcuff recipe.

GC 2022 happened. GHC 2022 is happening. Momo 2023 woll have the same bits I assume. People got their bits. Let us all (vtd and not) use them.

That's my argument.

How is it a penalty if there's an alternate way to use up the 20-22 bits (basically make it any bit so folks who want to use newer bits aren't penalized as you will).

Bits for me as someone who's played every VTD (or vol'd if i didn't play) the bits are effectively wasted as there's no use for them and no real value in trade for the foreseeable future. Near certaintly the folks crafting relics and higher which need fleece have all they need and then some.

It's not that bits and by extension fleece have no value for resellers it's they have no value for a fair amount of players at the moment.

Heck i'd love to see bits cashed in for some sort of unset. We have so many memorable monsters and NPCs that i'd love to see a for fun/memory set of tokens one can get (regardless of using up the 20-22 bits) but it'd be a interested sink on bits.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

It's entirely possible to have more than one recipe for certain things. I'd choose something that isn't likely to be made in vast quantities, but we do have multiple recipes for OBBMs which can easily be maxed out if people feel inclined.

Just want to add another plea to TD to come up with some use for the glut of MBs. It can be fun, useful, whatever...just do something. Treasure has much less meaning or value when it just sits there. And yes, I am doing fewer VTD runs for no other reason than I have no use for the glut of stuff that accumulates and its resale value is getting so low that it's definitely not helping pay for more runs. At least the uncommons and rares can be turned into trade goods that can be used for transmutes. But right now I have enough GF to cover about 8-10 years of transmutes (at least).

I don't think the answer is increasing the GF needed for the relics or legendaries, because that just penalizes the people who don't find it as much fun to do multiple VTD runs. You also don't want to create a transmute that is viewed as an in game "must have" for the same reason. But there must be something that rewards the people who are supporting these events beyond a large box of useless tokens.

Maybe this year TD should reduce the number of bits in the treasure mix. There's still going to be lots of VTD along with in person Cons.

For 2023-2026 the percentage of Monster Bits should probably remain the same due to 4C announcement. I see the glut due to the gap in a transmute for them for the past several years and the demand for VTD resulting in more treasure. Trade good prices went to a new normal before 2023 treasure map recipe. No easy answer if you want to not let GF prices tank and work it’s way out.

Really this discussion is less about VTD and more about trying to balance treasure for people that do 3-6 runs / year (1 or two of each PTD) vs people who do 13-36+ runs / year (1 to 3 of each PTD and VTD). This is assuming equal treasure per run, which isn’t guaranteed.

I don’t think the is a general way to balance for either group without ramifications to the other. If you leave transmute costs of things that can be gotten from treasure (AG, Fleece, etc) low, the frequent runners will generate a glut. If you make it high, then the “one set of runs per year” will be forced even more to the secondary market if they want to transmute.

Consumables like the treasure maps help the situation some as they give an outlet to excess, but they really don’t appeal to a non gambler.

Perhaps the best solution is expensive fleece and treasure generated trade goods cost to transmutes that really appeal to the frequent runners, but not the “once set / year group”?
