Gathering Class Damage Data! Fabulous(?) Prizes! 3 years 5 months ago #1

I wondered if some of our dungeon super delvers would be willing to do a community service of recording the round by round damage dealt by class for their next VTD runs?

If you would be willing to do that it might be nice to also know the difficulty and gearing level.

I can only minimally contribute as I only do one run per dungeon but I know there are people here who go several times and maybe don’t need 100% of their attention on the later runs.

If you’d be willing to do this, please record your data in an unused tab of:

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ao1Bq8qJDMTvUDN1HK69lYAjd9ijAL7AkvxiT1jkkGw/edit?usp=sharing

Populate your forum ID in the "filled out by" field for the v4c run to quality for Fabulous(?)* Prizes.

* Prizes fine print: Prizes are guaranteed to be of value between a hand shake and a Cadillac, children under 14 get your parent's permission first, offer not valid in Guam or the Quasi-elemental Plane of Salt.

I should be able to record my own damage. I’ll try for my party, but doubt I’ll be able to track all 10.

I’ll be running this since my sacred necklace and elf stone won’t be back before this weekend.

Thank you - I’ll put together a sheet.

You make a good point though - it would be better to track all rounds for a smaller set of classes than a sampling of rounds from all classes.

I think these are the important inputs for evaluating dmg data:
to hit bonus
dmg bonus
Crit range
damage per hit
# of monsters hit

This should allow for normalization regardless of gear out

I think it depends on your purpose. I want to know the end result of how much damage is being dealt by which classes, and relative comparisons among them. These inputs above would help you answer the question of why the final damage tally is the way it is, but it's not necessary to answer the question I'm interested in.

If we get good participation, and this sort of data seems useful to the community dialogue I'd be happy to try to organize collection of those kinds of data points - but I think we'd need more lead time that we've got right now to set that up for v4c.

Here's a sheet where we can tally the results:

Alright - since at least one person indicated a willingness to collect party damage data for v4c, I've set up a community sheet.

If you’d be willing to do this, please record your data in an unused tab of:

Would weapon(s) being used be helpful? That way the damage wheel can be figured out.

I like the idea. Just curious is there an anticipation that the live game data would differ significantly from just testing different builds within the app or website. Specifically, I have all 10 builds on my phone and could run multiple rounds of simulated combat against various ACs and record the results of hits and damage. Theoretically, you could run many/many rounds of simulated combat at any time.

Generally, I like the idea and have even attempted a couple of times to track my party's damage. It just gets very difficult to do in the heat of the moment and there are so many variables at play, that the integrity of the data quickly gets questionable. The suggestion to simulate combat in the app is probably the most accurate way of doing this. It allows you to change one variable at a time and see what impact that makes. You could also quickly run more rounds of combat increasing accuracy of the results.

Simulated data won’t covering things like - you missed 3 attacks because you attacked the wrong mirror image, or you missed your will save and were affected by insanity or went for a swim, or missed your fort save and died in the first combat round.

I applaud the idea to get more real-world data. But this approach feels like one of those things where your results are going to be heavily skewed depending on who is reporting.
