TOPIC: TD token holders recommendations?

TD token holders recommendations? 3 years 1 month ago #1

Hey everyone. New to VTD and token collecting. I was wondering what everyone uses to hold their token collections? I have seen on my runs some players with holders and thought that would be great but didn’t get the chance to ask what they were using. New to the forums. I tried searching but not sure if I wasn’t searching correctly. A link to a previous post would be awesome. Thanks in advance! See you in the dungeon!

I think the first then to clarify is do you just want to hold the tokens that you are using for your run? Or are you wanting something to hold a collection, which for most folks is more tokens than they are using on any given run.

There are a variety of people use for both, and they vary in price range. So to narrow it down can you provide this info, if not we are just going to give you all sort of answers, but maybe that will work too.

Hey there Bill. Welcome to the forums and the game!

Both Kirk ( www.tdtavern.com ) and Trent ( www.trenttokens.com ) sell binders and cases and tubes. Just look under accessories on their sites.

I personally use some of the larger Planko fishing tackle cases for bulk stuff (like trade goods and transmutes) , then have some binders (the Optima ones mentioned above) for things like extra URs and tokens I consider usable. I have builds set up in the little token wallets that Kirk sells. There are also some really neat options that people on the forums sell under the off topic-> Open Air bazaar heading. I know that some people sell wristbands, some nice wood cases, and sashes for tokens. There's quite a lot of options currently.
Cheapest Shinies available!
Find it cheaper somewhere else? Let me know and I'll beat it

For in-person runs, my guild uses the coin sheets Kirk sells in zippered three-ring binders (with a carrying strap, the binders also fit in our larger backpacks). We have a variety of approaches on consumables. Some folks like the token tubes Trent sells, I just use some of the bags that 10-packs come in, with stuff divided into heals, offensive potions, etc.

For more permanent storage, for stuff like trade goods, I like the ArtBin brand cases available at the Container Store (and perhaps other retailers). There’s a version that has rows that are the right size for tokens, with removable dividers so you can adjust the sections to fit as needed.

As others have noted, there are a lot of options. You might have to try a few things until you get to a system that works for you.

All the above actually. I didn’t even think of the various applications of token use out side of storage and collection keeping. Thanks!

VTD makes it a bit different. When we physically play you need to carry your tokens you are using into the dungeon. That can just mean a back pack, but if you need to show a token to the DM then you better have it handy, which means at a minimum weapons, but can be a lot of other tokens as well. So token books are popular. They can range in price kept a bit on how good they are.

For collections, I really like tackle boxes or craft boxes. Something that you can see the tokens and have individual compartments. I know a lot of us carry a single token so we can see how it fits in things when we are out and about just because you never know when you might find something that would work well for your collection.

This is a “moderate” collection solution, though not for runs necessarily. Baggies in a 5gallon bucket are less expensive and do work moderately similar. To this solution.

I think I have the 41 mm though I think these would be better as they’re just a bit loose in the 41 mm and the smaller radius might be just perfect. These are best for feeling like a wizard in the actual dungeon. They also allow easy readability and pages can be ordered so the front of the book had your stranger tokens for reference.

For play, I used the token tray that rent has on his site. It holds all 12 of my builds plus random stuff easily. I typically just throw consumables in a token tube or my badge holder.

At home, we use xmas ornament organizers for mulch and I have a few toolboxes for our keeps.

I wanted to use the binder pages, but have been a little nervous given issues I've already had with them at home (snapping an seams tearing)

That's funny. That was my first case and is sitting 5 feet from me full of trade goods, gold, and potions. But... it's a pain to access (YMMV). Stuff falling, fat fingers, etc. All things being equal, I'd recommend a regular poker case for the non-mulch stuff.

For home bulk storage, I use:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DFDS56H

To protect valuable tokens, I use (you need ASE/American Silver Eagle size, 40.6mm:
www.coinsupplyexpress.com/EvoCore-Coin-Capsule-40mm-Sold-Individually-783499

For quick access to weapons and consumables in the dungeon, I carry them in these:

To carry the coin wallets and such in-dungeon, I recently got these, though I haven't had the chance to test them live because the world is burning, they've been good at home:

I really like the coin wallet that NightGod mentioned, except I like them in the 12 variety better. I only put weapons and situation tokens in them. I have 12 of them 1 for each class. I hand the to my group when we play so it is the only thing they need to carry into the dungeon. Though I think the bard and wizards are each still on 24 variety because I haven't cut enough tokens from their builds...not certain if I can.
Stat boosting tokens for each class I use the tackle box method. That goes into a Samurai Sawara Tactical Tackle Backpack. I cannot find any good images of it that doesn't just look like a backpack. And it is one. But the front unzips so you can slide the tackle boxes out. I LOVE it. 4 of the little tackle boxes fit in the zip open part and then the top part of the backpack I use as a standard backpack at cons (or dump massive amounts of treasure into). It is not design for the weight of that many tokens so isn't like a carry all back with lots of support for carry 50+ lbs of weight, but it is much better than anything else I have found if you need to carry a lot of tokens through the dungeon. Though I recommend you don't carry a lot of tokens through the dungeon if you don't have to.
