TOPIC: Token of unknown value

Token of unknown value 3 years 9 months ago #1

Hey all-

I recently starting doing an inventory of my extra tokens that I'll probably post later on in hopes of selling some. There are a few I couldn't find estimated prices for in the token stores so I'm hoping some of you may shed some light on appropriate price for them:

-Crown of Allure (Black)
-Amulet of Plane Shifting
-Brawler's Horn
-Quicksilver (monster bit)
-Golem Spring (monster bit)
-Ectoplasm (monster bit)
-Shamble Slime (monster bit)
-Direwood Thorn (monster bit)
-Charm of Enlightenment
-Charm Necklace
-Dougal's Cloak of the Stars
-Earcuff of Energy
-Figurine of Power: Phoenix
-Greater Holy Symbol of Pelor

Charm of enlightenment could become incredibly valuable if Wisdom becomes a more meaningful stat.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I'll jump in since I've been completing big chunks of my collection over the past 2-3 years and have acquired all of these (except the monster bits).

I have recent pricing for some of them:
*Brawler's Horn: $30-$50 - mechanically a very good item and seems to be less commonly sold
Amulet of Plane Shifting: $30 - I believe I picked mine up from the first Patron run - cool collector's item, mechanically not great and in the most competitive slot.
*Crown of Allure: (I've never seen anything but onyx on these) ~$40 - I believe this was a completion token from 2018 that ran out before the end of the season. It's a really good token for a few classes (Rogue and Monk come to mind since they don't need to reuse an ability, change spell damage, or get a big AC boost), I'm not sure why it isn't worth more.
Earcuff of Energy: $125 - Earcuff slots are competitive with a lot of great options. This is a good item for certain builds, though but will likely go further out of favor as more charms and ioun stones are introduced (making the slot expanders probably BiS)
*Figurine Phoenix: $200-$250 - Fantastic item but only usable by a cleric and paladin. Definitely keeps increasing in value. I could see a lot of interest in this being reprinted, though.
Greater Holy Symbol of Pelor: $150-$200 - turning currently isn't great mechanically in TD. Until that changes, this will likely stay flat in value. It's slotless so that is a big plus for getting one and just keeping it as part of your cleric build long term for the rare cases where turning is helpful.
Dougal's Cloak of the Stars: ~$150-$200 - I really don't know how to value this. It's an ok item but not part of a transmute anymore. +3 is a good save bonus but shadowskin is now +2 plus immunity to an attack. It is more a collector's item unless you really need to bump up your saves.
Charm Necklace: $150-$200 - It's a really good item for a Paladin. For everyone else, as their legendary items come out - that neck slot is too competitive (unless one of the other class legendaries isn't a neck slot.)
*Charm of Enlightenment: $40-$50 - I completely agree that this will likely increase in value when stats have a bigger impact on our builds. It is also part of a BiS transmute (Relsa's).
Old monster bits - mainly valuable to collectors - not a big application for transmutes or builds - maybe $20-$30 each unless really hard to find then value will vary based on individual collectors.

The ones with an asterisk, I'd keep my eye on. I'm guessing they will increase in value over time.

Hopefully that helps.

I think I last saw Crown of Allure running around for about $75-$90

I was thinking of picking one up before I realized i would get the same effect from crafting Aron's Sunhinde Robe for my Ranger.

Pretty Sure the Earcuff of Energy is worth quite a bit less than $125 unfortunately.

With it's cast as a scroll limitation it's not overly useful for most cases and there are far too many better earcuffs to use, Inspiration being pretty much auto include

For all old Monster bits expect 1/10th the price of a Golden fleece for a quick sale, potentially double for a slower sale. Don't expect $20-30 unless it was a very rare token in general

Offer them bid style with increments and see what the market will bear.

Unless in high depend I expect most to sit there for a while.

There are several of those tokens I would outright like to buy.....

Old monster bits (unless owning a set and even then) are only worth the Golden Fleece they turn into.

Thanks everyone that posted and sent PMs. I will be posting my full list in the next few days. I don't think I want to do an auction right now so we will see how it goes. I appreciate everyone's sharing on their recent experiences either buying or selling these tokens.

I found one more "unknown value" token: Salve of Sacrifice

I am looking for some older monster bits for my token store, I'll pay above the Golden Fleece rate for them. :)

I believe the salve was a completion token from 2018. Best guess of value on that one would be $5-$10. There are a good number of them out there.
