TOPIC: Shadow Shot interactions, specifically with Thor's

Shadow Shot interactions, specifically with Thor's 4 years 10 months ago #1

Hello token gods, I have a quandary. Can the ranger use Charm of Shadow Shot with Thor's in ranged? Also, how is Gloves of Greater Archery, Bracers of Archery, etc., supposed to work with thrown ranged weapons? I guess I'm getting confused on what is a missile vs. what is a missile attack (DnD 1 ed. vs 5 ed.).

Thanks!

From the Player's Handbook:

Missile: A physical ranged weapon or ammunition launched by a physical ranged weapon. When you
see a token that says it affects “missiles,” it only affects physical items.
The spell magic missile does indeed fire a magical projectile, but it’s a spell and is not affected by things
that affect “missiles” unless the effect also works on spells.

From Thor’s +5 Returning Hammer of Smiting :

Classification: Equippable, Weapon
Weapon Handedness: Off-Hand, One-Hand, Ranger Off-Hand
Weapon Attack Mode: Compound, Melee, Ranged, Thrown
Damage Type: Blunt
Weapon Medium: Metal Melee, One-Hand Melee

Yes.

From Gloves of Greater Archery :

Adds +4 to Damage with physical ranged weapons. It has no effect on spells or melee attacks.

If you throw the Hammer you get +4 damage, if you melee you do not.

From Bracers of Archery :

Adds +2 Damage to all ranged attacks made with physical weapons. It does not add damage to any scroll or spell that has a missile-like effect.

If you throw the Hammer you get +2 damage, if you melee you do not.

This response is awesome in it's accuracy.

I'll just add some practical considerations:

There is a row on the party card for ranged to-hit and ranged damage. Tokens like the Bracers of Archery's effects are recorded in the ranged column.

So, as a practical matter when the DM resolves things, they're going to use that number.

When wielding Thor's at range, be sure the DM knows you're making a ranged attack so they use the ranged stats not the melee ones.
