Do we know for certain whether or not completion tokens will be part of some future transmute? It seems like they used to be periodically, but just wondering since it seems like I'm accumulating a sizeable bag of them.

The alternative seems to be to use them for trade goods, but would hate to do that and then find out I should have been saving them for something special.

What transmutes have they been used for?

Completion Token only have been used in a transmute once. It was for the Ring of Heroism.

I don't think it's ever been announced. The 2019 quick token reference has a line under special tokens marked (mystery) though. I don't think anything has been announced about what that will or won't be but I remember a thread with Druegar being appropriately mysterious about what it could mean.

It could be a storyline completion token that's going in the treasure boxes this year and becoming a true transmute in next year's tokens. The only reason I can think for it to be treated differently than the bead is they want to be able to make the transmute require exactly 1 completion from every run. It would be hard/confusing to write that up in the normal transmute recipe format without being able to actually use the names of the 2019 completion tokens yet. It could just as easily be almost anything else though.

Unless you have a burning need to mulch the completions for trade goods this year I'd recommend holding until next year.

I doubt there will ever be a transmute (I could be wrong) that requires completions from every run. There are now 4 Cons that have different completion tokens. Though there are some folks that go to all four, I think there would be a huge pushback if something required all completion tokens. If you meant just all completion for 1 con then I think you would have the same issue. If there is ever another completion token transmute I imagine it would need to be years like the RoH was. That said with all the extra completion tokens possible it would be harder to come up with the right balance of the number of completion tokens required. Just my two cents.

I think this is what you are referring to and I trust Druegar when he said it was just a mistake. It might be my mistake to do so but.....

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but I think the mistake referenced was just in the printed version. I interpret the next page in the thread as confirmation there should still be a line in special (but not in transmute) and he added the (mystery) tag to it, and at the same time realized there hadn't been placeholders added for the normal (at least in last couple years) uc and r greave-like treasure box only tokens so fixed that too.

My (relatively groundless) theory is that the mistake was putting the placeholder for a storyline token in both transmute and special as it won't be announced as a transmute until next year. It showing up as a pullable treasure this year would explain it being left in as a special but removed from this year's transmute section.

It is possible the line was left in just to generate amusement in speculative threads like these, but even if so, it's more interesting to go with the assumption it's a real token and make wild speculation.

Regardless, I think the recommendation not to mulch this storyline's completion tokens until seeing the final (final (no really final this time)) version of next year's transmute list is good unless that would prevent somebody from making a transmute that's expiring or they really want to equip this year.

I'm not saying that because I know something you don't. (I'm being sincere, not coy) I'm simply recommending a conservative course of action.

though if it is storyline it likely would start next year as we are finishing an arc this year.... though RoH was announced way in advanced as well.... caution is good just don’t be upset if there isn’t something.

I would love to see another completion token transmute. Most of the players that moved through my coaching rooms while the ROH was being crafted really seemed to like working towards something with their completion items. That said, I hope if we do it again I hope we get notice.
