So question about the brackets of the zephyr. The token db says

Bracelets of the Zephyr

Once per room, if the wearer has cast a spell from the character card as a Standard Action, the wearer may cast an additional unused spell as a Free Action in the same round. (Both spells are marked off the player’s character card.) Thus, the wearer may cast two spells in one round.

Has that changed recently, I could have sworn it used to just allow a spell to be cast as a free action with the "as a scroll" restriction. IE I'm almost sure you used to be able to cast alertness through the BoZ free action when you walked into a room without spinning off another spell first.
Semper Gumby, Always flexible.

Sartre sits in in a coffee shop and asks for a coffee without cream. The barista apologizes “Sorry, we don't have any cream. Can I offer you a coffee without milk instead?”

It's been that way for quite a while--at least as long as the Cabal Set has been a thing.

Quoting from the TDb description for the Cabal set bonus:
Unlike the Bracelets of the Zephyr ability, either or both spells cast in this manner are capable of being modified or duplicated because neither is "cast as a scroll".
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

The downside free action economy means lens of divine sight doesn't affect since you need your free action. Plus side you get more spells off and for some cleric or wizards it makes sense to get two spells off a round.

I started paying attention to URs in 2014 (the 2015 year of tokens) - by my recollection it was certainly that way and documented as such in tokendb at that time.

I think you might be referring to the old wizard staff that let you recast a 1st level spell 1/room as a scroll. Alertness every room was many wizards favorite use of that item.
this is not a signature.
