TOPIC: Fallen Star Mushroom purple?

Fallen Star Mushroom purple? 6 years 10 months ago #1

So I was digging through my token collection and I noticed that I had acquired a Fallen Star Mushroom at some point. I think the reason it didn't stand out to me right away was because the text at the top of the token is very dark. If you look at it closely it almost looks like a dark purple but isn't close to the blue it's supposed to be.

Is this common for tokens to have the wrong color? This is the first time I've seen it so I just want to make sure this token is legit.

I wouldn't call it common, but yes I have seen miscolored tokens before, text and/or the art. Much more common in older tokens though.

It usually varies based on the print run. Some years were particularly egregious where the green for uncommon was so dark it was almost indistinguisable from the black of commons unless you held it in bright light at an angle.

I've a bunch from 2014 and 2015 that are all over the place colour wise. I actually never really noticed it before, until all the .. kerfuffle .. a year or two ago. I was super paranoid about it for a while .. then folks (like kirk) said things (like this), and I stopped freaking out.

I see it a lot with trade goods. it feels like NONE of those things look the same year to year :)

I've got a fallen star mushroom where the lettering looked purple to me .. my kid was like 'no dad, that is blue. Get new glasses.'

Dunno where he gets it from.

I just looked through a dozen or so, the print quality varies considerably, but the text on all mine is noticeably purple.

It is. The point is that the ink often looks purple to some.

I have always thought it looked blue, not the same blue as other relics, but definitely blue.

The mushroom itself is blue, we're talking about the text, which seems purple.

Here is a reference photo showing:

1. An envelope with two different blue shades.
2. The back of an TD light blue token.
3. The back of a TD relic token.
4. A variety of Fallen Star Mushrooms
5. A few UR Special ?'s for reference

The text on the Fallen Star Mushroom is not a purple as that of the Special, but it seems purple to me.

If you use a color picker tool the color of text in Fallen Star Mushroom is mostly red, with roughly even parts blue and green at lower levels, so maybe it's more reddish brown technically than purple. It's definitely not blue.

That was a great comparison photo Matthew, Thanks.

Based on the img in the TokenDB ( fallen-star-mushroom )

And the one from the token design process, ( here )

it looks like it's mean to be dark blue. And the same blue as the other relics that year.
