TOPIC: How should I fill my Stein?

How should I fill my Stein? 5 years 11 months ago #1

So I invested in my first UR this year with +3 Handy Stein, and combining it with a Brawler's Mug, I plan to give the dungeon monsters a proper drunken beat down.

That being said, I'm now in need of placing an order to get myself some potions to put the Stein to full use. What sort of stock would you all recommend per run? (Probably running all normal this year, as I'm the only tokenholic among my friends)

Oh you mean TD tokens. ;)
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I was considering a ranger build using Stu's in mainhand and Captains Mug in offhand.

I think Potion Bull's Strength is about as good as it gets (+4 STR).

In terms of what's affordable and in print, Potion Ironclad + Potion Fiery Ice Lager provides some nice defense.

With the Stein this year I'm hoping for a reprint of Bull's Strength (or another similar token) next year.

I agree with you, I hope for a reprint. In lieu of the aftermarket costs though, I might aim for some Potions of Brawn instead. Also probably some Icy Blood (since I stack ret damage anyway) and the fire/cold resist potions.

Also thinking of getting a bunch of the 1p healing potions. If I understand things correctly, Stein + Greater Alchemist Pouch + 2 1 HP heals would net me 4 HP in one go. Admittedly on normal I'm not terribly worried I'm going to need a ton of healing or buffs, but never bad to have something on hand.

Do you play a dwarf fighter?
I'm really curious to see how our short bearded alcoholic fighters* combine RD and taunt.

Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

I'm pugging at least part of my group, so I cannot 100% guarantee my class, but yes, I want to play Dwarf FIghter ideally after Taunt was revealed. Second Choice would be Paladin.

I'm afraid you're mistaken, the answer is merely yes.

I've had thoughts of taking one of these in each hand as Ranger and simply bringing a nice stein or two with me full of random potions just to see what combo comes out from the randomly inebriated party member. Dress up nice and see who'll dump spare potions into your steins for a laugh.

Can you use two of the same named weapon? I did not think that was possible.

DMG, p14: A character capable of wielding two weapons may wield two weapons with the same name regardless of rarity, but they only count as two items toward fulfilling a set bonus if both are either Relics or Legendaries.

You can. I think what you are thinking of you cannot use two weapons of the same name to fulfill a set bonus UNLESS they at least one of them is a relic or legendary.

From the DMG (pg. 14): THIS MIGHT NOT BE PAGE 14 anymore.
Set Bonuses & Duplicate Weapons
If both the weapons being wielded are part of the same set and are either Relics (blue title with a ***** near the bottom) or Legendaries (orange title and backing), they count as two items toward fulfilling that set’s quota. E.g., when trying to qualify for the Viper Strike set bonus, a monk could wield two +3 VIPER STRIKE FANGS (Relics) and wear one other Viper Strike item to qualify for the Viper Strike set bonus. Similarly, a ranger could wield two ASHER’S +5 VIPER STRIKE FANGS and they would count as two items toward the Viper Strike set. Wielding two +2 VIPER STRIKE FANGs (Ultra Rares) would only count as a single item toward the set’s quota because neither of those are Relics or Legendaries.
A character capable of wielding two weapons may wield two weapons with the same name regardless of rarity, but they only count as two items toward fulfilling a set bonus if both are either Relics or Legendaries. Putting it another way, wielding two same-named Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra Rare, Enhanced (***), or Exalted (****) weapons only count as a single item toward qualifying for a set bonus, but wielding two same-named Relic (*****) or Legendary weapons counts as two items toward the set.
Different-named set-piece weapons count as two items toward the set’s quota, regardless of rarity.
Note: Other than weapons and RUNESTONE FITTING BASEs, no character may equip more than one item of the same name—no matter what rarity the items are.
