maybe the sliders could be equipped with a magnet..Wouldnt that help secure the tokens in the sliders better?

That is a great idea. I will send Jeff the specifics of the magnets I use.

Maybe just bring a strip of masking tape with you, rolled in a ring with the sticky side out.

The problem with magnets secure enough to hold a token in, is getting them out after.

Even right now, some tokens are hard to get out of some sliders. I've had to tap them upside-down on the table, or pry the token out with my fingernail. With a magnet in, players would be fiddling and messing with their tokens for minutes after every combat.

I guess we could put a hole through the slider bottom, where you could push a stick or rogue's tool, to force the token out. Or a tiny strip of cloth through the area where the token sits, so you can pull on it to eject the token (think of the way some battery compartments use this trick to get batteries out) but either of those solutions might interfere with slides.

I think it's possible to find a working solution, but it might not be a perfect one. And some solutions might be more expensive than others.

I think the hole is the solution. We would have to bring some kind of stylus/pen/stick along. But that is not all that hard to do.

There's another way - if the magnet is one of the 1/4" or 1/2" neodymium cylinder variety, and it is set 1/8" above the flat, then you could conceivably just press on any one side of the Token, and the opposite side rises, so you can get a finger underneath and flip it out... (I've played with this for some of my token holder amulet designs, and it is almost how my SoP is released from my SoP ;) ).

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

Interesting. I like it.
Would be cool to see various prototypes, and practice with them in the dungeon to see which one(s) work(s) best.

So long as Jeff is ok with it - purely as an idea storming exercise... I will attempt to get a model or two made! B)

Maybe aim for a prototype for testing at WYC?

I concur either an open side on of the slider to easily get the token out or a slanted (trapezoid) mount point so the token can be tilted out.

The only problem I see is that it would make wooden tokens, or those that get printed without the metal slug in the center, much easier to fly out. Assuming anyone still uses those.

My question is, would the magnets interfere with the sliding? Magnets attract or repel based on the polar orientation, so it might cause clumps that don't break apart like they currently might, or sliding disturbances without actual contact.

Definitely a good reason for user testing then, right?
